Michael Burgess

He has 8 homers in 83 at bats this year and is now at 19 in 281 at bats as a professional.  That is about a 1 every 15 at bat or so rate.  The impressive thing is he is only 19.  Who are some guys that have had comparable power production at such a young age?  He has also struck out 87 times as a pro so that is a major concern, but what are the thoughts on him as a prospect?

re

he also has displayed pretty good plate discipline since becoming pro. If he can keep the walk rate weher its at and show the same power, I’m sure the nationals would take a .250 hitter with a ob% of .340 and 30+ bombs

.250 is a bit low - .270 probably, but

Just imagine what he would be doing in a lineup with Brett Wallace, Petey Paramore, and Ike Davis at Arizona State . . . .

NOT TOO MENTION

Justin Jackson, Travis Snider, etc.

Good point...

I didn’t mention that, but 45 walks in 281 career at bats is pretty impressive.

Looks like he will be competing with Marrero and be pretty much on the same track for the Nat’s-—I really like both players, although Marrero may be better suited for first base in the long run--who is the better prospect/higher ceiling, and who gets to the bigs first?? Both seem to have enormous power potential--40+HR possible some day but K’s may always be a problem for both players---remains to be seen!!!

Very good power prospect. I agree with ScottAZ that he probably won’t hit much over .250 for a full season at this pace, but I can see him becoming a Burrell-type player if he continues to develop
