MiLB Mock Draft: Pick 17 Toronto

So, Josh Fields was up.  Then I think people on the board got a little over enthusiastic about the young man.  And then, there was a Friedrich backlash vote.  Just callin' em as I see em.  Not that that was a bad pick by any means.  I thought they were probably 1 and 2 and not separated by that much.

So now we get to Toronto.  A team that has graduated a lot of young pitchers in the last year or so.  There system is a pretty balanced one without a lot of impact prospects outside of Snyder.  They really could go anywhere with this pick.  JP has misfired a bit on his first round selections, lets see if he can break that trend.

Done voting.

I don’t know much about the remaining choices so I’m opting out. Looking forward to John’s draft coverage soon to find out more.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

Justin Smoak - Vanderbilt University

6’4” 215

Switch-hitting 1B. Big-time power potential. Fluid swing.

He’s got to be a 1st round selection. Right?

the south carolina one

just FYI for ya batonball

Poor South Carolina… they can’t honestly call themselves “Carolina” or “USC”

A pitcher

looks good here. The OF is filled out with likely one of Lind/Snider headed to first base or DH. Also that they added a lot of HS hitters last year. Toronto will need more pitching especially after graduations or failures (Banks) of their “highly touted” first rounders.

pitcher

then who you taking? fields is the only college pitcher worthy of this pick, but he is a closer.

I don't care how the roster looks...

I’ll take the best player available. That prospect to me is Hicks. A 5-tool prospect is something that this organization could use and the best guy available. Worst comes to worst, someone gets traded, but I would never let my major league roster dictate what I do in the 1st round.

Farnsworth: Start the ship, Leela. Let's just steal the damn radar dish and get back to our own time.
Fry: But- But won't that change history?
Farnsworth: Oh, a lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa! Let's get the hell out of here already! Screw history!

Farnsworth: You mustn't interfere with the past! Don't do anything that affects anything. Unless it turns out you were supposed to do it. In which case, for the love of God don't not do it!
Fry: Got it.
Farnsworth: If for example you were to kill your grandfather, you'd cease to exist.
Fry: (gasps) But existing is basically all I do.

hicks

its not like he is going to be up real quick either. hicks is going to take some time, and vernon wells isn’t going to be around forever.

JP isn't known to take the BPA

let’s be honest or else we wouldn’t have ended up with Ricky Romero…..

Didn’t just take Romero, but he took him when everyone else on his scouting staff wanted Tulo.

Run-off

Should we have a run-off between Hicks and Wallace? Or should we give it to Hicks, who’s up by one.

hold off

its only been up 9 hours and we barely have 100 votes. give it some time.

Danks

Where is Jordan Danks on this board. I have him next as best available, but if they want to go pitching I’d take Lance Lynn out of UMS.

by Aslan on Apr 27, 2008 9:10 PM EDT reply actions

except maybe Martin, if you see him as a hitter

I don’t think there are any position players that are really worth it here.
Actually, no one here really excites or intrigues me too much… but I’m probably blanking on someone

who calls Ole Miss UMS?

by nms on Apr 28, 2008 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions

I mean

anything i generally say is voted on the complete opposite direction. So…um….i pick Hicks here? lol

by AtlBr on Apr 28, 2008 1:41 AM EDT reply actions

Ricciardi has been far more inclined to select HS hitters early(or at all) in the last two drafts, BUT he also loves drafting good college closers and turning them into starters… trends say it’s Fields or Hicks to me… unless he has fallen in love with Wallace… never mind, J.P. could do anything here… anything!

Like Rick Bosetti my goal in life is not to do well but to piss on things.
