Todd Frazier: The Big Red Machine!!!!!
The latest amongst a group of fantastic prospects, shortstop Frazier has opened his 2008 season with a bang. While old for Low A Ball, the 2007 1st round pick is off to a great start:
.314 AVG, 657 SLG, 6 HR, 14 RBI
I wouldn't be suprised to see Frazier move quickly through the system, especially after his impressive 2007 debut where he posted a line of:
.319 AVG, .538 SLG
BA feels that he has above average raw power and he has the size and strength to hit 20-25 HR per yer. He already has shown a great eye amassing 12 walks to date this season. With Votto and Cueto already making their impact in Cincy and Bruce and Bailey dominating Triple A, will Frazier join these 4 in the bigs in the next 2 seasons. I could see him moving quickly through the minor league ranks and joining the Reds sometime in the 2010 season. What does everyone else think about this promising young offensive shortstop?

JERSEY!!!
As a Rutgers Alum born and raised in Jersey how do I not cheer for this guy? If I remember correctly, John rated him a B+. I’d like to see how he fares at a higher level before I look into the crystal ball, but I could definitely see him up by 2010. I think the big question is what happens with Keppinger? If you ask me Frazier has a much higher ceiling, however I think Keppinger has proven he is major league worthy. Does he become their new Freel minus the wheels?

Frazier
John had the Reds Dorector of Player Development on his AM Radio Show towards the end of Spring Training. This guy said Frazier has the bat to move to 3B or OF if a move is necessitated further up the ladder.
I am a little curious why a 22-year-old who has mashed younger comp isn’t in High A right now, though. If he is blocked by another prospect i.e Francisco at 3B in High A, then you have to make the decision now.

Chris Valaika
.352/.376/.523 at High A. He was the Reds 3rd round pick on ‘06 out of UC Santa Barbara. Personally, I think they should move them both up a level.

i don't know
Great season and you can’t ask more of him than to perform where he’s placed. But he’s awfully old to be in low-A ball. Again, not saying this necessarily reflects badly on him, he’s performing and that’s all you can ask. But at his age I’d certainly want to see him doing this in at least A+ ball before I’d get too excited. Is there a reason that the Reds have him in low-A?

Yep
He is blocked at High A at the moment and the Reds don’t want to move him off shortstop.

Its a great start
but it doesn’t really tell you anything about him you didn’t know.
I mean don’t get me wrong, its a fabulous start (esp considering how hard it can be to hit in the Midwest league in April.. though I’m sure its easier in Dayton than Clinton, IA or West Michigan) but his question marks are still is a 3b, rf/lf or SS and can he make quality contact vs. quality pitching
