9 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 R..23 Ks!
That was the line of San Diego State sophomore pitcher Steven Strasburg in a 1-0 win over Utah.
Since his freshman year he has been considered a top prospect for the '09 draft but even with such high expectations that is a HELL of a breakout game.
Not to be too hyperbolic but I honestly do think that is the most dominant single game pitching line I can remember for a college or minor-league game in quite awhile.
Granted, Utah is not a great team but they are not bad either.. just mediocre.

that's good
I can't imagine a better pitching line.
Obviously Wood's 20k game was more impressive given the competition, but yeah, amazing line.
strasburg is amazing
i watched on the internet as he outpitched brian matusz in his first start of the year, and he has been dominated ever since. on the year he has 73 strikeouts and only 8 walks in 50.1 innings. it is incredible that he can combine that kind of stuff with that type of control.
Disappointing
What happened on the walk and on the hit? Is perfection too much to ask these days?
If I had a rocket ship, I'd never want to land.
strasburg
aaron fitt is currently do a chat over at baseball america and said he would take strasburg over an pitcher in this year's draft and might even take him over pedro alvarez. would you say he is david price or is he the best college pitching prospect since mark prior?
scouting report
mid to high 90's heater with a sharp slider. he fills the strikezone with both pitches and has a pretty smooth delivery. he is the total package.

honestly
I think pitch counts are worried about too much but are somewhat important... BUT if a guy is striking out 23 and only walking 1 and giving up 1 hit and pitching a shutout I don't think it matters. The guy clearly is being effective, to an amazing degree, on EVERY pitch. Also, remember that the final was ONE to ZERO. Anything less than great and Strasburg would have lost. I dont think the coach had any choice. You can't take a pitcher out of a game when he is untouchable when, if a reliver makes even one bad pitch, you lose
The fact that he was, obviously, effective doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing damage to his arm.
Neglectful father of David Quinowski
sure
but there is no way of knowing if he was damaging himself at all
At any rate, my point was that there is no way any coach could have pulled him anyway
He has
