Slightly OT: Matt Murton

Not a prospect anymore but he's a guy thats never really gotten a shot.  Does anyone else feel kinda bad for this guy?  He can obviously hit the ball, but defense and lack of power are keeping him back.  Isn't he basically the OF version of Kevin Youkilis?  Give him a 1b glove and thats basically who he is.  Idk, I just wish for his sake he can get moved somewhere and be allowed to hit.  I guess I'm not really saying anything new but its just frustrating that a guy that can obviously hit is being dicked around with and not sent someplace that he can help a team win games.

He'll get his shot

I'd like to see him playing right for the Rays. They need an outfielder, after all, and he'd fit right in until they can fill the gap with another prospect (or until Desmond Jennings bumps BJ Upton to right).

for what it's worth...

i really do think the cubs are working to find him a team to play for every day. he's a great guy, he hits....but he really is somewhat of a defensive liability. i see him here at wrigley quite a bit, and i think he just loses track of what he's doing sometimes out there. maybe it's because he doesn't play every day, but he makes mistakes that often don't get noticed in the box score because nothing extra happens to come from it.

i do hope he gets his shot to play every day. but i don't think it's because they doubt his bat that teams aren't calling.

he deserves a shot somewhere

he's one of those players where you say he can hit a bit and get on base but.... and there are a lot of buts. he's just gotta find the right team. the rays as mentioned above are an option but i think a national league team may be better. the guy just beats on lefties. he'd need a better glove, along with some other stuff, to be a legit regular player but he's the sort of guy who would be excellent in a platoon/pinch hitting role.

a straight youkilis comparison may be a bit aggressive, especially considering youkilis has i think (literally) no platoon split. but calling him a poor man's youkilis is probably apt.

re:

His skill set is underrated. Given the opportunity, he can put up an .820 - 840 OPS on an everyday player basis. And I'm surprised no teams are jumping at the opportunity to buy-low on this guy. You could get cheap, average production from your corner OF spot for really next to nothing right now.
