Carlos Gonzalez to make A's roster
at least according to this venezuelan newspaper. if true, very surprising A's are being aggressive w/ his limited experience in AAA. along with starting his arby clock early. still a risky move. either they passed on trading for a crisp or the guys like sweeney/denorfia/fiorentino they were not sold on yet. hopefully they are not rushing Gonzalez and it backfires on them. he was impressive in spring training, though had an injury 2 weeks ago
if so that would be a young OF w/ Buck 24, Gonzalez 22, and Sweeney 23 with veteran Emil Brown backing up at the corner OF spots

"They are very happy and I feel well for that reason, since he was something that we were hoping for a long time". Surely It is the first time in its race that will be part of róster of 25. "He is something that I cannot explain, but as always I say it, most difficult it will be to maintain to me". González is already super safe that its debut will be the next Tuesday and is right sufficient thus to think it. "they said to Me that it was going to play in the central garden". The left-handed toletero must demonstrate the weekend that totally is recovered of the injury in its right leg, the same one that it prevented him to travel to Tokyo for the inaugural day. "they requested to Me that it played Saturday and Sunday in parties of Smaller Leagues, but that will be of only proceeding because I am enough good of the leg. I do not have any type of pain. I am one hundred recovered percent ". Occupied Between the practices, games of Leagues Smaller and adjustments of the trip towards Oakland, to Carlos González it did not give chance to see the games him of its equipment in Japan. "I saw only the news. It was important to obtain a victory there ". To the marabino patrol craft it does not bother to him to have lost that historical series in Japan. "They are things that happen. It was not for me to be in Japan and now I am concentrated in my debut the next week. That is my priority so far ". On the expectations that have been generated from their arrival to Oakland, it preferred not to speak much. "much has praised Me, but I do not think about that.

I really hope this isn't true
I would hope the A's, at least, would have the clout to avoid making dumb decisions just because they would look good to the casual fanbase.

Nice
I officially motion for the following:
- "center fielders" now known as "center gardeners"
- Minor League Ball changed to "Smaller League Ball"
And i really have no clue what a marabino patrol craft is, but somebody else can figure that out.
im dying here
that translation made my day

Marabino patrol craft
marabino is because he is from Maracaibo City and patrol craft is outfielder
I though he would be sent down for sure
might be rushing him a bit. However, I like the fact that they have enough balls to do it unlike almost every other team this spring. I mean WTF Salty
Response
Salty's a bat first guy with an iffy glove. That would be fine except he hit all of .250 on the spring . . .considering the Rangers aren't going to be very good at all, does it really make sense to burn service time on a guy who would probably benefit from some more time in the minors?
He's a decent bat atm, but not a must-have in the majors at this point. Better to let him refine his bat and figure out what position he's going to play in AAA rather than the bigs.
I look at it a little differently
I agree that the Rangers are not going to be good. Because of this I see no reason that they should go with Laird over Salty. There is a 0% chance that Laird will be part of the team's future. Salty is the better player now and a much better player for the future. The only reason he is being sent down is because of $. The same can be said about Longoria. It's good to see a team that will actually try to field there best team.
As for position, no way should he move to 1B. Look at his splits as a catcher and a first baseman. When he was catching last year he hit .325/.373/.503. When they put him at 1B he hit .203/ .236/.346. Some people may say it is just a coincidence or a small sample size, but I disagree. I think it is more of the fact that he has to be more focused on the game when he is catching than when he is at 1B.
Response
Bad teams tend to stay bad by making decisions like starting Salty in the majors this year. If the team were a potential contender, I'd agree, get him out there and take your chances. But they're not. They have very little to lose by getting this guy just a little more time in the minors, and the extra refinement to his game will mean the team is getting more player for their buck when he finally is up to stay.
The only people really benefiting from Saltalamacchia starting the year in the majors are 1) Salty himself ($$$) and 2) maybe his fantasy owners.
I've seen his statistics before. That being said, he's just not that good behind the plate. Not to mention that he's already huge and isn't going to suddenly shrink. I think once he's properly acclimated to playing 1B on a regular basis, the bat will be fine.
that's my local paper
I'm a marabino too. I think it might not be true, the journalist is probably just very hopeful to see a local hero make it to the big leagues.
I think the last one was Yusmeiro Petit, but he doesn't play for the local team in winter ball.
Hmmm
Didn't the A's regular season already start? Maybe they're just referring to the fact that he's still on the 25-man roster after their season already began. Not sure if he made the trip to Japan though. He hasn't actually played yet.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
from yahoo
Mar 25 Gonzalez (hamstring) is one of three ineligible players for the series in Tokyo, which still gives him a chance to be on the 25-man roster when the A's return stateside according to the team's web site.
Recommendation: Gonzalez is expected to play in the Bay Bridge series against the Giants when the A's return this weekend, and could still end up being the A's starter in center field.
Well, looks like we got snookered after all
Shrug. It's the right move.
