Not a chance
Even with Reed Johnson stepping in to start against the lefties, leaving the righties for Pie, I just don't see anyway he hits .300. I think he will develop into a solid player who has the potential to eventually hit .290-.300, but for this year I think .270/.310/.420 with 12-15 HR, 15-20 SB and a well above average CF.

False
Will lose his job and get somewhere around 350 ABs, hitting in the .260 range with an ob under .300 and limited power.

Loses his job
He could be a .300 hitter but he is streaky. He will end up in a slump at some point and they will put him back to a late inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. The cubs will continue their streak of being unable to develop position player prospects because of their devotion to immediate results and unwillingness to take on multi year plans for improvement.

False
Way, way false. I predict a .255/.315/.420 line.

False
.260 / .320 / .404 with a few more errors (though excellent range and assists) than expected. Sub .725 ops loses him a lot of playing time and Pinella forces a front office move either by the deadline or the waiver deadline, destroying the kid's self-confidence.

False
Not even close. I think he'll be hitting down in the .240's by the break and will probably lose his job.

True
But it will be somewhat false with Reed Johnson facing lefties. We are talking about a guy who's minor league .AVG is .301 and hit .362 last year in Triple-A with a .423/.466/.669 split against righties! He only got 177 at-bats last year and the most of those were spread out between occasional starts here and there. Look at Tulowitzkti for a perfect example of how Pie is going to do this year. First 180 at-bats or so, not so hot. At-bats after that, awesome! Also, it would be a great idea to put a .OBP monster in front of him like Mark DeRosa. Pie hit .394/.470/.616 with Men on in Triple A last year and hit .266/.306/.430 with runners on in MLB.
All you guys PLEASE PLEASE pass on Pie, I want to have seconds!

Spring Training
Oh also for you cake eaters, Pie is hitting .356/.397/.559 this Spring Training for what it's worth.
The Cubs could be getting .300/.350/.450 from CF position with SBs when Pie plays. I can't wait for opening day!

Gotta love the hardcore anaylsis going on here
The detractors have nothing but hate. Stop being jealous and analyze the guy!
Oh nice, now the Cards logo pops up next to indakind's name once I hit the preview button. No seriously, look, I know your team is going to be terrible, but don't take it out on Felix!

True...
Just because most people are saying false. I was actually going to also, but I like to root for the underdog. As a bit of a Cubs fans (Mariners are still first in my book though) I would really like to see Pie do well, although the Cubs recent history with hitting prospects is a bit scary.

Really? Great rationale. That said, nevermind, I can't even find a reason to think that would be true.

False
As a .300 hitter in the minors I think it is unlikely Pie approaches that figure in his first full season as a starter.
I would imagine he'll hit around .280 and be hot and cold all season.

I'd say around 280, with some power, but not a lot.

Pie's got a .300 season in his near future, but not this near. I'll also go about .280, with decent power, although next season I could see .300 with pop.

I agree with this
But I wouldn't be surprised if he busted out. There are a lot of haters on Pie. I don't know why. He had a less than great rookie season but does that really mean he's going to suck? The kid has shown he can hit at every level, despite being young for every level. He's still raw but I still think he's got huge upside.

Why not?
Over 6 years in the minors, despite normally playing a level above his age he had a .300 batting average. In his brief stint in the majors last year, he hit considerably less than this, but he also had an unusually low BABIP relative to his batting average. I don't think he'll actually hit .300, but I think it's utterly reasonable to expect him to hit in that vicinity with reasonable power and some stolen bases
by OldProspects on Mar 27, 2008 4:14 PM EDT 0 recs
Well
I think in this instance, there are enough scouting concerns that he may struggle. To hit .301 with power, I really think ya gotta be nuts. If he gets 450 ABs, which might be a bit over, and hits 265...i would qualify that as a success.

False
I see a lot of similarities between how the Cubs handled Corey Patterson and how they are now handling Felix Pie. I think Pie could eventually develop into a fine everyday player if he's not rushed. I just don't see Pie breaking out this year. He could eventually mirror Patterson's career path in a worst case scenario.

although he'll have a good season of around .275-.280 with a .330 OBP and around 15 dingers.

I could see him hitting for a solid average, but I just don't think that the power numbers will be there, unless under 20 is moderate power.
