Justin Huber finally free!!!
Padres got Justin Huber from the Royals for a PTBNL.
We have been waiting for this for so long, but perhaps it's too late for Huber. He's kind of stagnated after all this time not being given a legitimate chance at a starting job. What do you think the chances are that Huber makes the Royals regret underappreciating him and becomes a productive Major League hitter?

I'm Confused
Isn't he even more blocked in San Diego? KC had a mix of unimpressive parts at first base, San Diego has Adrian Gonzalez solidly entrenched.

better than KC
At least Huber has a shot at some playing time in San Diego. He was completely buried in KC, and he really should get a shot at some playing time in the majors.
I think his future is playing an OF corner. Gerut and Brian Giles won't be hard to beat out for some playing time in SD. He could get 300 AB if he hits (and I think he will).
I was hoping he would stay in the AL and I could get him cheap at the end of my AL fantasy drafts, but I guess it was not meant to be.

Huber
Should not be considered a first baseman any more.

I did not realize he was making the move to the outfield. How's his defense? It can't be that great, and combine that with Petco and that's scary. But I guess the Padres really aren't running much out there defensively anyways.

defense
Huber's defense is a complete disaster.
He is slow and doesn't get good jumps in the outfield. He's dropped routine fly balls this spring.
It sounds like I'm talking him down but it's really not the case...he's just not good.
I assume Huber will just be a bench bat..

Brutal
Haha, so he's really nothing more than a pinch hitter? Sounds like he still won't be getting much of a chance.

Shooot
At least he'll have a chance at big league $$$! Seriously, I'll bet he ain't complaining and a bench bat who can hit and play 3 positions (even if not that well) isd a legitamate role on an NL team.

$$
Well that is certainly true and I'm happy for him for that. I hope he gets a better shot sometime though.

The Giants
really could have used him. I mean, Dan Ortmeier at first base? God, it's going to be a long, cold season by the bay ...

Absolutely
That makes a hell of a lot of sense.
Too bad too; I'd really like to see Huber get a legitimate shot, or at least 300 ABs.

Huber
Saw the kid take a ton of rips in the batting cage this Spring, and I came away pretty unimpressed. What I saw suggested that his swing is too long to handle MLB pitching...add to that his defensive (in)ability and "bench bat" seems like the most likely outcome.
Also, FWIW, recall that the Pads now have Scott Hairston in the OF as well, making it least a little tougher for Huber to break into SD's OF.

he IS free...
...of having to ever play or live in Kansas City. San Diego at least has nice weather and a beach. I'd take living in SD over KC any day of the week.
