Patterson released by Nationals
VIERA, Fla. -- Right-handed pitcher John Patterson was released by the Nationals on Thursday based on the pitcher's lack of performance.
Patterson last pitched on Sunday against the Orioles, a game in which he gave up eight runs. He was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in nine innings this spring.
"They told me I didn't blow the doors open and that there were other pitchers pitching better," Patterson said.
Patterson had been in the organization since 2004. His best season was in 2005, when he went 9-7 with a 3.13 ERA in 31 starts.

I know hes been injured and inconsistant but the Nats need pitching and he has shown talent and performance in the recent past.
Also, I'm surprised no one traded for him. I wonder if everyone is sure that is arm is just toast. Even if it is, hes still on an arbitration contract I think, so it is not like there is more than a one year commitment there if a team wanted to take a flier on him.
What was he owed this year anyway?

wow
How often is it that a guy will be kept in a fantasy baseball dynasty league longer than his own MLB team will keep him around? Ouch.

Why
I get that he was hurt most of the past two years, but who are the Nationals to cast off a talented arm? I think Houston would be a good fit.

+1
I am very surprised by this move today. His arm must not be right (mid 80s fastball).

Wade Miller
Didn't the Astros fairly recently cast-off their own version of John Patterson in Wade Miller? Not sure I'd want to go through that whole charade again if I were a Houston fan.

It's worth it, if you're the stros...
gotta buy as many starter lottery tix as you can! This one may only cost a minor league contract, after trading for Tejada, what reason would they not roll the dice on a guy who had ace potential? Could he be any worse than Woody Williams?! HAH! I mean seriously, the back end of our rotation is sad.

If trader Jim can't trade him, no one was willing
JPatty's a nice guy, but after 2k5, has produced nothing on the mound. Everyone thought he was tip top physically, but could no longer push it to 90 on the gun anymore.
Rotation will probably be O. Perez, Redding, Bergmann, Lannan or Chico with Hill joining up when a 5th is needed. Right now, Lannan and Chico have pitched way better than Patty. Nats don't "need" Patty, haven't "had" him for 2 years now.

nice guy?
I haven't met too many mlb players, but I did meet Patterson and he is a jackass...no joke, that guy is a dick. Personally I wouldn't wish a career ending injury on anyone except Barry Bonds' bitch ass, but if it had to happen to someone other than that racist cheater, then I would choose Peppermint Patty.

Let me guess
Patterson told you that you are immature, needlessly rude, and a bad assessor of minor league talent, then asked that you not interact with his children until you learn to play better with 5-year-olds? And that you return your jersey with "Patterson" on the back?
