Cueto and Volquez

OK so what is the deal on these kids? Looks like both are on their way to win a spot in the rotation to start the season.

Cueto against DET today (no Irod, Grandy):
4 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO

His Spring ERA is not at 2.08. What kind of pitcher is he? His minor league numbers are impressive for his age especially his command. I've heard some grumblings about his workload but he's been great everywhere he's pitched. Is he this year's Gallardo as in not as much hyped but quietly put up great numbers?

As for Volquez, it seems like he finally got his control down in 07.

What type of stuff do these guys have and also any projections for them?

Gallardo....
I keep hearing that Gallardo 'was not hyped'.... dude was the #16 prospect in all of baseball last year.

Cueto is a 90-94 MPH fastball guy, touches 97-98 at times, but not overly often. Above average change, above average/plus slider. Real good control. Short though.

Volquez has a slightly better fastball 92-96 MPH touches higher than that with an absolutely devastating changeup. His curveball has not looked bad all spring either.

The future looks birght for once..
When was the last time the reds had 3 good young arms?

I'm finally not embarassed to say I'm a reds fan.

Now if we could only give Bruce his chance.

The Reds are finally making a move!

Finally say you're proud?
Buddy, these youngsters are going to fall apart like Generation K.

Reporter: "What's your opinion on Votto?"

Dusty Baker: "Oh, he's gotta swing the bat. I don't care about on-base percentage and I don't give a crap how its proven or how good he's been. That guy needs to swing at some bad pitches!"

R: "How about Bruce?"

DB: "He's alright, but we need a leadoff hitter. Someone with speed. Once again, I don't care about how good he is. I'd take Freel over freaking A-Rod."

Watch him slowly take apart your team. It doesn't matter that your team is actually good now. Baker can kill a good team with the snap of a finger.

This
coming from a fan of a team who has the worst in-game manager in baseball.

They have some great arms
and personally the reds are one of the top three teams in the NL Central and I'll be very dissapointed if the finish in the 4-6 range.

they wont disappoint
not this year... they really have a good team right now... i picked them to win the central last season, so maybe i was a bit early...though this year im taking the Brew Crew [so as not to jinx the Reds again ;-)]
