BLOWOUTS!!!!!!

I was going to do a little college wrapup and I was looking at scores and I noticed two strong southern mid-majors turn their games with weak northeastern teams into absolute embarrassments.

The series themselves aren't notable but I thought others might get a laugh or a "wow" out of this...

Charlotte (Who beat South Carolina 11-2 earlier this year) and Stony Brook played a double header.
Game one goes to Charloote 23-5, game two goes to Charlotte 13-4.  So the scoring on the day went 36-9 Damn.  Somehow Charlotte got those 23 runs in Game One with NO home runs.
Charlotte has 4 hitters hitting .420 or better.

In another doubleheader Western Carolina (who beat top 5 Vandy this week 5-3 and was one run off from beating Rice) beat Hartford 32-3.  WCU scored those 32 runs on "only" 24 hits.
Hartford actually kept game 2 close, losing 5-3.

Hartford has had even more bad luck in that weather has only allowed them to play two of their first seven games this season.

I don't mean to hijack, but did anyone see the score of the Sonics game today? Denver scored 84 points in the first quarter, and ended the game with 160. Good grief they're terrible.

First half you mean.
Scoring by quarter went: 48-36-43-41 for Denver. As a former NBA fan, and follower of the Sonics, it sucks living in Denver. This is the second time in a month that the Nuggs have blown my hometown team out.

Luckily, I am no longer an NBA fan since David Stern has allowed the team to be stolen from us. Not that I watched much NBA nowadays anyways, just don't like where the league is "at". I find college hoops to be much more entertaining. Even though my alma mater lost, I loved watching the BSU-NMSU triple overtime game on Saturday. And Pitt is a very fun team to watch play.

Stony Brook
Back when I went to school and played ball against them in the early 90's, Stony Brook was a DIII program in the old Knickerbocker Conference.  They produced an MLB All-Star in Joe Nathan (even though he played SS for them back in the day) and moved up to D1 relatively recently, I believe.  From what I recall, they were nothing special back when they were in DIII, so it's not a huge surprise that they're getting their lunch eaten by D1 programs from the south.  Give them a few more years in D1.  They may never be as competitive as some of the good weather programs in the South or the West, but perhaps they could be one of the better programs here in the Nothreast some day.

BTW, those scores and batting averages are a perfect example of how unreliable college stats are when evaluating prospects.

BA says..
"The most remarkable was Georgia Southern's outburst Saturday against Columbia. The Eagles belted 14 home runs in the 26-8 blowout, the most homers in a game by one team in NCAA history-at any division. The previous record was 13 homers by Cal State Northridge in 1996 and Alabama in 1999. Twelve different players homered for Georgia Southern on Saturday, and the Eagles hit five in the eighth inning, including consecutive pinch-hit homers by Roman Grimaldi, David Richardson and Chris Bankerd."

more
" I thought we took some good swings and certainly conditions with the wind were right for it (Saturday) as well," Georgia Southern coach Rodney Hennon said.

Saturday's action also featured Indiana State's 26-20 win at College of Charleston, as well as Cal putting up 21 runs against Loyola Marymount.  "
