Brian Bannister uses sabermetrics

Star-divide

This is a well written piece by Yahoo's Jeff Passan. The type of pitcher that stat geeks loathe uses metrics and sabermetric philosophies to gain an edge with his below-average pitch arsenal.

MLB trade rumors did a 3 part interview
in which Bannister talked at length about his approach and philosophy.  Much better than an article spaced with short quotes.  His responses were 2-3 paragraphs per question - its in 3 parts:

The 1st paragraph has linke to parts 2 & 3.

Part 3 is the best
where he tells of the 3 types of successful pitchers.

Then he writes copiously about BABIP and how BABIP differs by the count, and how that affects his pitching.

Genius.
He should be a pitching coach when he's done pitching. Hell, he should be a manager some day.

What a great read!
Its a shame he doesn't have better pure 'stuff'.  With this type of head for the game.  Imagine what he could do with it.
Go Pirates!!!
