Tribe signs Edward Salcedo?

It has been reported elsewhere on the net that Scout.com has posted the Cleveland Indians have signed Edward Salcedo for $2.9 million. I have not been able to confirm this elsewhere but there are several posts on Scout. That really surprises me since the Tribe is not known as a big dealer with Salcedo's agent, Scott Boras. I think that is more than they gave their #1 draft pick, Mills. Anybody know if this is a fantasy rumor or actually has some substance?

they got caught in Boras web of suckering into an overrated prospect. Moustakas and Salcedo are nothing but hype. Moustakas the best bat since A-Rod, are you kidding me.

Not true at all

Salcedo is an incredible prospect. You can never expect a player to be the next A-Rod when he is like 16 years old but the guy is an incredible athlete with great tools. These teams just don't listen to Boras and say wow! Let's shell out $3 million bucks for him. They send trained, professional scouts to watch workouts and see how good this guy really is before making a decision like this. They may have had to overpay due to the fact that he is a Boras client but they didn't sign him because he was a product of overhype.

teams have scouts? who are trained and professionaL? and use them to, what, scout players before signing them? shocking. gosh, all these years i thought agents ran the whole operation.

I am not sure from what I read

that he is overrated but I will agree that if the rumor is true that he is very highly priced. The Indians make mistakes like everyone but they do not have a history of overpaying, particularly to Boras. Right now this appears to be smoke rather than fire. This is too big a deal to have such little actual print substance.

rumor untrue

as of now, it seems untrue. the tribe has been linked to him in the past and could be working to sign him though.

no report on mlb.com/milb.com of a signing either. would think an official signing of a $3 million FA 16 year old would generate at least minor headlines.

thus i say its false...for now.

Chris Kline at BA

has burst the bubble. According to the Indians they are in negotiations with Boras but far apart on the money. There may be some substance because the Indians are real cautious even about rumors. But I conclude that it is a rumor at this time.

Is it me or is Braves in 07..

just annoying as hell. My good everything he says has no backing to it.

It is just beyond me how you can call a kid with these tools and physical build at such a young age and a unanimous first-round talent, all hype. I have a feeling he is like eleven or twelve because he just says some stupid crap. Does he not realize that teams have tons of professional scouts going to examine every single part of these players' game. It's like he thinks Boras just sends out a letter saying all his strengths and that is all the go by.

Y'all realize Boras is rep'n him because he is sweet right? Who does Boras rep. that isn't good, seriously? I know people say Boras gets the price tag up, which is true, but Boras wouldn't even be there in the first place if they guy didn't deserve big money. I think his prescence along says something. Also, why would you dump on Mous, no one thinks he really is the next ARod, but he was a high pick with an incredible bat (FOR A PROSPECT)
