O.T. legend Myron Cope dies

Pittsburgh legend Myron Cope has died.  As a Pgh fan, it makes me reflect on how much an announcer, regardless of sport, can make the game that much more special.  He made so many catch phases come to life, most notable, the Immaccuate Reception.  He was the force behind the terrible towel. God rest your sole Myron.
Yoi, and double Yoi!

Agreed
Myron had a face made for radio, and a voice made for.... well, anyway he was a famous writer back in the 1960s. Excepts from a couple of his more famous articles for SI are here:

One could argue...
that Myron Cope was the Harry Caray of football.  A fan with a fan's mindset and a disregard for sanitizing his thoughts before speaking them.  Someone that said what was on his (and most others') mind and didn't care who disagreed.  There is always a need for brutal truth in a world overwhelmed by constant correctness.

Vlad
He was a hell of a sportscaster/sportswriter, and a hell of a guy. He'll be missed.

As a Steelers fan
I will miss his broadcasting. I have the road to the Super Bowl DVD with all the playoffs games leading to SB XL and of course they have the radio broadcasts of all games. He was the voice of the Steelers, no doubt about it.  A unique man who may not have made it in today's age because his voice was an aquired taste. I wish we had more original broadcasters like him today
