Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

SS Holy Trinity

I was thinking the other night about the various fates of A-Rod, Nomar and Jeter.  Baseball Prospectus called them the "Holy Trinity" for a while, plus Tejada who was like #3a (I don't know if they still do; I'll pay for the book but not the site).  At the time, I think the consensus was that Jeter would have been the first one to move away from the position, with Nomar and A-Rod surviving longer because of their arm strength, despite Jeter's athleticism.

So, if someone would have told me between the 2000 and 2002 seasons that by now, Jeter would be the only member left playing Short, I would have told them they were full of crap.

(Not including Tejada for the sake of argument, and the fact that the was a later bloomer)

Then again, I probably would have said the same thing if that person told me that the Red Sox would have won two World Series in four years, and that my Giants were five outs away from doing it and lost it.

Anyhow, I know it's a random thought, but I got a kick out of thinking about it...

Cheers.

Its especially amusing since
Jeter is about as bad a fielder as Adam Everett is a good one.

Tejada
Hit 30 home runs and 115 rbis with an OPS of 111+ at the age of 24 (albeit that has been some controversy over that figure). I'd hardly call him a late bloomer. Tejada belonged in the top group of SS long before he was given credit for it.

It is only down to the Yankees idiocy that Rodriguez is not the only one left playing SS out of the three.

If baseball made SENSE, Jeter would be centerfielder and A-Rod might have another Gold Glove or two at shortstop.

Arod
would still be a SS if he was with any other team.

Jeter probably would have moved off SS by now if he were with any other team.

Yup
Jeter is such a great captain, that he has decided to screw his team over the last few years and make arod a 3b.

To be fair to the Yankees...
... A-Rod isn't a SS anymore.  Guy's got a good arm and hands, but not as much range as he used to.

Of course, Jeter's not a SS either...

New Holy Trinity
Hanley, Reyes, Rollins.

With guys like Tulowitzki and Drew not too far behind.

And yeah, I know Hanley isn't a good shortstop.  But still.

H-Ram
That's okay, when he's a full time outfielder, we can just move Tulo into the slot.

THERE CAN BE ONLY.... um... THREE!!!

hmmm
i think the new trinity is more like
rollins, reyes, tulo

hanley is awesome, but he's going to be moved out of ss. drew...great tools but he needs to put up the numbers first before he can even be mentioned in any conversation involving ss and better than avg.

SS rankings
Wow, JJ Hardy doesn't even place in the top 30? The Brewers are in trouble.

by Wood Tick on Feb 22, 2008 9:32 AM EST up reply actions

Heh...
I was thinking the same thing.  Maybe they'd like to trade him to the Cubs for "17. Mark Teriot" (sic) so they could upgrade to nearly average.

*fix dat*
  • Jason Bartlett
  • Chirs Gomez
The Twins WILL compete in 2008!!!

Unholy Trinity
Michael Young
Derek Jeter
Hanley Ramirez.

All three made pacts with Satan to still be playing short stops.  There's no other explanation.
