Dwight Howard is a F@&$ing MONSTER

I am sorry but I just gotta post this. He's one of my Fav players in the NBA.

I really love this guy skill and athlectism is just sick and I really started to feelin this dude since I saw him play in the McDonalds HS game.

Tonight if you saw the AS Weekend Slam Dunk Contest, The was just awwwwww man.

I,ve never in my life seen a big man jump like that EVER.

That was one of the best performance I,ve seen in a dunk competition since Carter in 00.

PS: Dwight Howard, Please stay healthy and improve, because youy are really one the good people in the NBA.

I understand it's a Baseball site but, you gotta appreciate good sports and D. Howard performance for the Dunk competition was just SICK.

The SuperMan bit...
was even better since his "dunk" was really a short-range bullet pass throw the hoop.  Regardless, Howard's combo of ridiculous athleticism and creativity made him a runaway winner.

But Gerald Green's blow-out-the-candle-then-dunk was so effing cool.  Reminiscent of Ced Ceballos' 'blindfold' capper in the '92 Slam Dunk finals.

best dunk contest in years
Vince's arm in the rim is the greatest dunk ever, followed by about three of Jordan's dunks (the Airwalk, the freethrow line, the baseline flight jam).  But the Superman and the Birthday Cake are both top 10s.

by smittybanton on Feb 16, 2008 11:44 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

too young...
The free throw line dunk was done first by Dr. J.

It was cool when Jordan did it, but even better when Dr. J. did.

Personally
The birthday cake wasn't all that hot

The Superman dunk was just sick. When he did it and they froze it, he was at last 40 inches off the ground. I mean that just sick and ridiculous.

Then his third duck was just crazy when he threw the ball up, jump in the air, tip the ball off the backboard with his left and then caught it with his right and dunked it. That was just unblievable.

Also, the one of the best dunks I,ve ever seen was the 360 Winmill by carter and the between the leg reverse one handed dunk by Jason Richardson was sick as well.

Vince Carter's 360...
was only a 270. If you watch the video closely, before he goes up, he starts turning. Instead of his feet facing the basket, they are at a 90 degree angle already. His "360" is already 25% done before he leaves the floor.

If you want to see a true 360, look up Spud Webb's dunk from the 1986 Dunk Contest. He is still the shortest player to ever with the contest.

Howard is amazing
and to think he's only 22 and only halfway to his potential.  He is a 30-18-3 man waiting to happen.  Lebron is the only person who has more upside than Howard.

wasn't even a dunk
the superman dunk should of been the superman layup, because he didn't even reach the hoop.. he was a good 2 feet away from it and got lucky that he threw the ball into the hoop.

he obviously want trying to do that

you missed the point
superman would be above the rim and throw it through

I too have followed him since HS
I got to meet him in Detroit last yr. He's a real nice young man.
The Reds are finally making a move!

As great as his first 2 were...
the tap the backboard one was even more impressive to me.  The best dunk I've ever seen is when Jonathan Bender did a similar dunk in the McDonalds High School competition years ago.  That was close to it.

Howard is just a freak.

But as for best contestants ever, it's got to be 'Nique.  Basically every title Jordan won against him he stole from him because of his name.  'Nique is the greatest dunker of all-time with no question IMO.  He'd do just as good of dunks as anyone else, but also with POWER on top of that.  Amazing.

Dwight is gonna something special
(him and Greg Oden if he's healthy) at the 4 or 5 position for years to come.

Hopefully, the Magic don't lose him like they did with Shaq too.

To me the best was Vince Carter in 00. I mean come on, a 360 Widmill? That was one of the best dunks I,ve ever seen. Then the one where he caught the ball in mid air and put it between his legs and dunked it was just sick period.

Also, last year the sticker dunk that Howard did last year was crazy too.

Don't forget Bynum
IMO Bynum will be better than Oden.  His touch for a big man is amazing.

And yes Vince in 2000 was the best performance in a dunk contest.  He just put on a show.  But my all time favorite dunk is this one by Richardson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dlkS60gp7c I remember saying before he did it how cool it would be if somebody did that, but didn't think it was possible.

by nyy601 on Feb 17, 2008 1:39 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Bynum will be good but not great
Bynum I think will have knee trouble and at best will top out a few seasons like Mourning without the blocks.  Oden I don't see as any great, he's more likely to be the next Mutumbo than Ewing(his comparison).  Howard when he developes more range and better passing will be the next Olajuwon.

by Bravesin07 on Feb 17, 2008 7:36 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Oden if he's 100% healthy
and if he has the "killer instinct", he will be great.

I to say he's gonna be Motumbo is off because he's already a better offensive player now then Motumbo ever was and Oden's D is just crazy. Think about it, at age 19 he already was a plus Defender at the 5 position.

Did you remember when his right hand in college and he still put up very #'s despite using his left most of the time. That already tells you how skilled he is, he's scoring with his left consistently and can block with both hands.

And his fel and touch is very good and it's only gonna get better.

I thought Oden had the best set of tools from center that I,ve ever seen.

by NYYLover1000 on Feb 17, 2008 10:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You nailed it...
Oden does not have that killer instict. At least, he doesn't seem to. When I look for a killer instinct, I don't want that guy to be saying he'd be just as happy being a dentist.

Persoanlly If I had a choice
that if he had the K. Instinct or not, I think he does have it.

He's already a plus defender, and part of being a plus defender is working at it or just plain hard work. Guys at his age don't like to play D and nor are they good at it at first. He's already pass that with a chance to get better at it. That tells me that he's trying to be great at what he does.

Second, he did pretty well in the NCAA tournament last year and played great in the NCAA finals against Florida which had a very good frontline. People forget that Tim Duncan never in his college carrer reach a final four and he too have to answer questions about his Killer Instinct which was basically his only knock on him coming in the draft becaus he was and still is quiet guy and despite playing for WF for four years, again didn't win anything that was big.

I do think he wants to strive to be great.
The only worry with him is that already at age 20, he has knee problems as a big man (whether it's a center/Power foward) So that would scare me more than the questions about his "killer instincts".

Tim Duncan was a 1 man team
Remember Oden also had Conley and Cook.  Conley I think will be better than Oden.  I don't thin Oden will ever get his explosiveness back since he had microfracture surgery.  Howard has yet to miss a game in his 4 year career.

by Bravesin07 on Feb 17, 2008 11:41 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

His touch and feel
at the 5 position is the best since Duncan. He's fundamentally sound and he's really fun to watch.

The only reason why I would put Oden and Howard over him is that Bynum (while very good athlete) isn't as good an athlete as those two.

but I would be surprise at all if he was better than Howard or Oden in the future.

Duncan is a 4 not a 5
remember that, and I think Bynum is overated because he was only good in a few games against a team that can't play inside D(the suns) and the Heat who had a nearly washed up Shaq(if he even played in that game).

so
you obviously haven't watched the majority of Laker games this year.

Bynum was the reason that team was one of the elite teams of the west.

Raise the rim.
I agree he was a monster tonight.  If he competes in the contest next year the nba better let him have the goal raised.  I was hoping he was going to put that little hoop up near the top of the backboard and dunk a little ball in it, just to show off.

by natedogg430 on Feb 17, 2008 1:32 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think it's crazy
that they won't let him raise the rim.  If you are going to let them bring props he should be able to raise the rim.

the truth about dwight howard
Beerman734 wrote

As some one who has dealt with him proffesionally, he's not even close to the "nice and humble" guy that he's made out to be. He's actually very cocky and self-absorbed. I'm not saying that he can't be nice, but like many proffesional athletes, he knows when to put on the "nice guy" act and turn on the charm.

Don't be fooled.

competitiveness
My guess is that it must be very difficult to be a world-class athlete and not be somewhat cocky.  Competing your whole life (and usually winning), probably takes its toll.

As the above guy said, at least he's keeping it clean, as far as we know.
