Slowey's scout scores

Is there any way to find how a prospect rates on the 20/80 (is that right?) scale?

Does anyone know how Slowey rates currently?  Do they only use those scores when they are figuring out the draft?  If so are there historical scores for him on that scale?

If not, what are his plus pitches?  Or how about a grade for all his pitches?

Is he about a B on all his pitches?

I believe that...
... it depends on the scout. Different ones who use that scale will rate his pitches differently.

For Slowey Im guessing none of his pitches rate real high but his command does.

yeah
no, the scores are always used - the draft, the minors, the majors.  but, like grozzy says, each scout will give his own scores - it's an opinion.  there's no central MLB official scouting scores database or anything like that.  and they generally aren't handed out like candy to the public, although you can see them now and then in BA reports and so on.

Differs from scout to scout
MiLB.com does have some draft scouting reports with 20-80 scores, but those are as of draft time, and I'm not sure Slowey would be graded there anyway.  The only other site I know of that has done 20-80 scores for minor leaguers (as opposed to draft prospects) was CalLeaguers'com, but obviously they only did the Cal League, and I'm pretty sure that guy signed as an actual scout elsewhere and thus he hasn't updated the site in a couple years.

What I've heard on Slowey is that he's about 45 with his fastball velocity, 55 on movement, around 50 with his other pitches, 70ish with his control and 60ish with his pitchability.  Someone who follows the Twins more closely can feel free to correct me on that though.

I have read something similar
That depending on the scout his stuff sits all around 50's but 70-75 control and 60-65 pitchability.

Its truly amazing how pinpoint he is on the mound.  I remember his big league debut how he couldn't overmatch anyone, but instead had them flailing on foul balls and nubbing stuff around the park.  If he finally learns that he can't pitch up in the zone to big league players and pitches to contact a little more (he was horribly inefficient with his pitches) he could be a Radke.

I am just now reaching the age of Dusty Baker prospectdum. maybe i should give Krivsky a call

Response
My best guess, present/future.

Fastball: 50/50
Curve: 45/50
Slider: 50/50
Change: 50/55
Control: 70/75
Fastball command: 70/75
Secondary pitch command: 55/65

Well, actually his 2 seam fastball is
A great pitch, above average
and obviously he has WAY above average command its just that he can't pitch in strikes all the time and excpect to win he has to throw balls some times!!!!
The Twins WILL compete in 2008!!!

Command
I saw better command the second time around than the first. But I still would not put his command above 70. He was wild in the strike zone, which expalins the outrageous HR rate. I think he could get away with more strikes if they were on the corners and down. He left too many pitches up and out over the plate.

His two seamer is his best pitch. I'd give it a 65/75. The range might narrow as he gains more consistent control. Sometimes it moves a foot, sometimes just a few inches, which is one reason for his inconsistent command. If you think your sinker will move a foot and you want to throw strikes with it, you toss it in the middle of the plate and hope it clips the corner at the knees. When you toss it over the middle and it only moves an inch or two, it ends up over the fence.

The most disappointing thing for me was his secondary stuff. His change is only a few miles per hour slower than his fastball. I would give it a 45/50. His curve hangs there. I'd give it a 40 at best. His slider is his best secondary pitch. I'd give it a 55 or so. None of them is much better than a show-me pitch.

I would rate his four seamer above average, though. I'd give it a solid 70. He has the ability to add and subtract with it, so even though he doesn't throw it that hard most of the time, he coaxes a lot of pop-ups when it gets in on guys quicker than they expect. He needs to throw it hard and inside to hitters to move them off the plate more. This will make his sinker and secondary stuff more effective.
