Los Angeles Angels Prospect Discussion

I'm working on the Astros now. Here is a thread for the next team, the Los Angeles Angels. Discuss this farm system and their prospects.

Other Top Prospect Lists

Here are the other reports so far:

Although they didn’t make the FutureAngels.com Top 10, I’ll suggest you consider some guys at the lower levels who might fly below the radar.

Low-A Cedar Rapids LHP Trevor Reckling would have been #11 on my list.

Advanced Rookie-A Orem players would be OF-1B Roberto Lopez (.400/.480/.667 but a college senior in a Rookie-A league), OF Angel Castillo (lots of power but never saw a pitch he didn’t like), 1B Gabe Jacobo (several people in the organization tell me he might be a sleeper), and lefty reliever Andrew Taylor (high ERA but like Jacobo several in the organization think he’s a sleeper).

Low Rookie-A Tempe players include pitchers RHP Manaurys Correa, LHP Manuel Flores, and LHP Alexander Torres. If you want a sleeper, you might want to look at 1B Chris Garcia who has high AVG/OBP numbers with a low strikeout rate but not much power so far.

Brandon Wood

Still of prospect age and a fantastic season in AAA. John, what possibilities do you see for him in MLB? Can he cut it as a decent regular? I know he is too young to write off, but he has looked bad in limited chances in MLB. just curious on your thoughts. thanks

I agree - Noonan is as valuable as a dead horse… and he too should be beaten by some dude in a top hat who looks like he’s holding his junk.

Matt Sweeney...

A personal favorite of mine heading into the 08 season but an injury prevented him from playing all year. Still young, 20, assuming health, he could be a big sleeper in 09.

A couple of rookie level guys

that look interesting are 1B Roberto Lopez (as mentioned earlier in this thread), 2B/SS Alexia Amarista, and OF Matt Crawford. None probably garner anything higher than a C+ grade, but for various reasons each have something interesting to offer.

Not much there now, but the system is going to reload a six-bullet clip of prospects in the next draft

I don’t think there’s any other system with as much “predictable future talent” on the way, except maybe the Nationals.

The current cycle of Angels dominance is coming to an end, but they’ll start getting good again in 2012-2013 when the 2009 HS class starts creeping into the majors.

Smith and Chatwood

Both of these guys I love! Callis (Think it was him) said Smith was poised to break out in 2009. His K to BB ratio was unbelievable last year. Efren Navarro is another guy I like, Lopez, Jacobo already mentioned. Michael Kohn too is an interesting sleeper.

I really loved their 2008 draft, and I cant wait to see their 2009!
