Secondary MLB League

Hypothetically, you are starting a league to compete with Major League Baseball, your prime concern is not treading into MLB markets, but you'd like to have a league with 12 teams in it to start.  Where are you putting these ten franchises?  My choices:

1. Montreal, Quebec
2. Memphis, Tennessee
3. Portland, Oregon
4. Sacramento, California
5. Vancouver, British Columbia
6. Louisville, Kentucky
7. Durham, Nouth Carolina
8. Charlottesville, Virginia
9. Buffalo, New York
10. New Orleans, Louisiana
11. San Antonio, Texas
12. Little Rock, Arkansas

I assume you mean

Durham, North Carolina.

Charlotte might work better for NC

But then, of course, you’re competing with the Panthers and Bobcats. The Triad area is a good idea, but i’d consider moving the team to Winston Salem- it’s a fair distance between Durham and Raliegh as well as Charlotte. NC is a weird location- you’d want to draw people in from the Triad and Charlotte, but there’s no ideal location.

New City . . .

I would do El Paso/Las Cruces . . . especially with the huge Latin following baseball has. To put them in I would remove either Memphis or Little Rock . . . those two cities are less than 3 hours apart on I-40 and that’s exactly the kind of thing you are trying to avoid.

Grew up in Las Cruces...

and honestly, I don’t think that area could support a MLB Team. They barely support the Diablos in El Paso (always lots and lots of seats available) and they also barely support their two college teams (the Aggies and Miners). Doesn’t El Paso still have a hockey and soccer team too? Or did they shut down due to lack of support.

…and two minuets away from both Oakland and San Fransisco.

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

You’re going up against some mother AAA organizations there. Might want reconsider Memphis and Buffalo, at least. And there really isn’t a baseball market in Quebec. Portland is a great location though. And, I’d consider Las Vegas and Oklahoma City.

Buffalo? How about closer to NYC ?

If there were a way to buy the Brooklyn location from the Mets, the Cyclones are already a great, cheaper alternative to MLB in New York. New York has enough people to support more than two teams. Maybe something in Jersey?

But Buffalo is a dwindling and very cold market.

Columbus Ohio

yes Cleveland and Cinncy have teams in MLB, but Columbus is BOOMING with population growth

I agree - Noonan is as valuable as a dead horse… and he too should be beaten by some dude in a top hat who looks like he’s holding his junk.

Virginia

Charlottesville’s a cool town and all, but there’s just no way a MLB team could fit there. Why not put it in Richmond, which has like 10 times more people than C-ville?

My list:

1) Montreal
2) Portland
3) Richmond
4) Las Vegas
5) San Antonio
6) Buffalo
7) Vancouver
8) Memphis
9) Oklahoma City
10) New Haven (doesn’t really belong to one market, it’s kind of split in half)
11) Charlotte
12) Indianapolis
