Trade

Keeper league, favors hitters a bit...got offered Morneau for Lars Anderson, Julio Teheran and my first round pick, which is top 5. The draft is for all the 08 picks, so it should net a Smoak, Hosmer, Alvarez, Alonso or Beckham.

If my rebuilding tem were closer to winning, maybe, but I'm inclined to show patience...what does the community think of the deal, value wise and down the line?? (In other words, is Lars = Morneau down the line?)

Thanks!

I think there's a good chance.

Lars may not equal Morneau, but Lars plus Tehran and a really good player from the 08 draft is most likely going to beat hiim.

I’d say no deal.

No...

do not do this trade. Anderson COULD equal Morneau eventually by himself. Teheran is young and could be an ace someday. Also, your 1st round pick could be as good as Morneau someday. G. Beckham, Smoak, Alonso, Hosmer, Alvarez, or T. Beckham combined with Lars and Julio wiould be way too much to give up for Justin Morneau. If you could get something else really good with Morneau, you should consider it, but otherwise, don’t even think about it.

Are we talking Dynasty League here or just keepers and if so how many? I think that influences things a great deal. IF you are in a Dynasty and looking beyond 2 years to win then I’d say DON’T do the deal if not then you have a young 1B with very good value for a 1B who MAY be as good as him a 17 year old pitcher who has done nothing and a draft prospect who could be a Posey or Gordon Beckham.

Honestly if I’m at all close to winning I take the certainty here as not only do you have to wait for these guys to mature you also have to have at least 2 of them hit their ceiling or close to it to lose out

Lars Anderson might equal Morneau, Teheran might be an ace and your pick also might be a great player but if one hits and you get a decent player and a bust you’ve done well. Ceiling is one thing but in my experience it’s a lot easier to add prospects than it is to add an offensive stud like Morneau

I'd do it Morneau is still only 27.....

So Being the Monster Twins fan that I am, I say his best year or two are still ahead of him meaning he hasn’t had his “career year yet” by any means….

I’d say do it But try to pry something along with Morneau like maybe a second round pick….

Morneau could easily hit 30 homers 120 RBI next year in the final year of the Metrodome and possibly lead the Twins to the ALCS and beyond!

Your team and the pick

Are the deal-breakers. You said you’re still rebuilding AND he’s going to get an elite hitter with that draft pick. Pass on the deal.

Take the deal !!

Morneau is a known player and picks and prospects are all on the if come. Take the sure thing.

Why...

not aim for a bigger reward if your rebuilding. Rebuilding is all about taking risks in any kind of baseball. You always want the higher reward because you want to have a btter team when rebuilding. Sure, getting Morneau could make you a decent team next year, but why do that when you cold have a potentially great team in a couple years. Also, posting your roster and a little more info would really help in figuring out whether you should do it or not.

Because your team will likely not compete for a championship in 2009, then why do this deal? By the time you are ready to compete, Morneau will be past his peak years. If anything, you should be trying to swing a similar-type deal by trading away one of your studs for some elite-level prospects.

Take Morneau!

This is especially true if you have a cap on the number of minor leaguers you can carry in your league. Many leagues will carry 5-10 minor leaguers for each team, and allow you to draft new ones for free each year. When you trade a prospect in those leagues, you have to consider the value you get from opening a spot for a free pick.

I deal prospects for big-time players just about every year in my dynasty leagues. I’ve only regretted it once, and I still ended up with a superstar in that deal.

Anderson

Does anybody else see a Will Clark comp here? I know those of us that can’t remember five minutes into the past like to compare prospects to more recent players, but I still think Will Clark is a good comp. Will Clark was the best first baseman in the National League for a about a five or six year period, and if Anderson becomes just 3/4 if what Clark was than the Red Sox have a very good player on their hands.

IMO

I think Lars will hit for more power (HR wise) on a consistent basis. Decent comp tho. Will Clark was a fantastic hitter. What caused the early retirement (36?)? Was it injury? His power decreased significantly in his post-SF years.

Clark

I think he just wanted to go back home to Louisiana, and hunt and fish for the rest of his life.
