Community Prospect List: #107
After 352 votes the winner of the poll is Matt Moore with 16% of the vote. David Huff(4%), Jason Castro(3%), Jemile Weeks(3%) will be removed from the poll because they fell below the 5% cutoff. Julio Teheran, Rafael Rodriguez, Michael Taylor & Chris Coghlan will be added to the poll.
NOTE: I went back to the 5% cutoff for this poll. KBR may change it back for his.

Ethan Martin
The heir to the Billingsley/Kershaw mantle.
Or maybe not, but hey, we are in the hundreds.

MaxRam over TnT?
Interesting list, overall… some interesting rankings – the sTRangers refuse to give up Taylor Teagarden for anything short of the next Nolan Ryan while Max Ramirez could be had for the next Jamie Moyer… yet, Max ranks 15 places higher than Tea…
Interesting.

Stats
This list is pretty much based on hitting stats and ARL. Most people voting here think they know better than teams or scouts when it comes to the non-tangibles.

michael taylor

if taylor is anywhere near that good in AA in 2009, he’s a top 10 overall prospect. coghlan doesn’t have that upside, and even if martin does, he’d still be 2 years away from contributing in the majors after making the 2010 list.
it’s gotta be taylor.

Kila's line
blows that out of the water and it was done in AA and AAA. Much better plate discipline, he’s MLB ready and the power looks like it could be for real.

wow
a 24 year old first baseman in the texas and pacific coast leagues outhit a 22 year old left fielder in the SAL and FSL.
i’m not a believer in kila, but he’s a legitimate challenger to taylor, at this point.

He's got plate discipline
at a high level. I’m NOT saying he’s as good as Ryan Howard, but compare their respective lines in each of their 24 y.o. seasons. It’s very possible to have that progression curve and be a successful MLB’er.

i completely agree, but
like with ryan howard, until they actually prove they can do it at the major league level, it’s never gonna be taken as a given, nor are they gonna be given the benefit of the doubt.

well that goes
for any prospect – more so for those in the lower levels

Well you have to consider positional difference here
If Coghlan came close to that OPS regularily with his good defense at 2B, he would without a doubt be be near the top of most propsect lists. Taylor has to put up better offensive numbers in LF to be as valuable as Coghlan. Taylor is following the developmental path as Coghlan right now considering age and level, but I will almost always take the most advanced player in this situation. Also, Coghlan has a better BB/K ratio at AA, which puts him just a bit more ahead than Taylor.

taylor is a 6'6" behemouth
he is legitimately a massive piece of humanity. he’s kinda limber, as well, and he has a great arm in LF.
i’ve come around on coghlan. he’s a nice player, but while positional adjustments are useful, a guy with 1.000 OPS upside (and upside is still very much a relevant term for taylor, considering he had 3x as many doubles as homeruns in the FSL, while playing his home games in a cavernous park) is more valuable regardless of what position he plays.

Coghlan
then Kila (very close between them) then Taylor then Holt/Martin (interchangeable), all are in my Top 100

Teheran vs. Inoa
For someone who is familiar with the scouts’ views, what’s the difference between these two guys besides signing bonus?
by parish on Dec 19, 2008 12:43 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Who actually would know?
They have pitched like an 11 combined innings. I think they are similar but Inoa has the “shiny new toy” effect going and the big bonus. Of course money and talent are never parallel, just ask the Orioles.
