Duffy
Not a top-100 talent, but the numbers he’s put up through A-ball as a teenage lefty match up with just about anybody in the minors.

by the way...
that includes 165K to 80H.

+1
The only two knocks on him are his flyball to groundball ratio, and his lack of a 95 mph fastball. He’s still very projectable, and the numbers don’t lie.

I can't read.
Unlike the original poster, I believe he is a top 100 talent.

David Huff
And if Cedric Hunter is being added to the list, Kulbacki should too

I’m not certain David Huff is a top 100, but the fact that people are putting so much more on projectability than reliability drives me a little crazy in this list.

I'd like to see more guys with a 80% chance of being league average
seriously.
At this point, it seems being extra young and/or injured is almost a net benefit or something.

+1 but still waiting on Coghlan
The argument made for Moore in the previous thread was really convincing. Would vote for Lawrie or Adam Moore afterwards. Adam Moore has really gone under the radar I think despite hitting well for a catcher along with good defense.

Brett Lawrie
Definitely an excellent hitter, and if he manages to stay at catcher, then could be a terrific prospect

It’s raw but, a plus plus tool.

For me as well.
He has to have a better chance to be a catcher than Conger.

Testers
When people request testers could everyone please give the last AND first name of the prospect. There are many prospects who share the same last names. Also, if you like or disagree with a proposed tester please place a +/- 1 when somebody suggests a player. This will make it easier for me to gauge the community’s interest.

Juan Ramirez
I’ve got to think that Ramirez deserves a tester somewhere around here. Solid performance, good upside, still a bit raw. Not saying right smack here (although I’d take him over some guys being bandied about), but somewhere around here.

I hope you aren’t trying to be serious slurve. We all know that Dewey is many things (i.e. Derek Holland’s stalker) but a sock puppet is not one of them.

Nope
I know Dewey personally. He may be slightly crazy (ok…..VERY crazy) but he tends to post what he believes. Does he exagerate sometimes? Of course. However, he knows his stuff and if you can look past his crazy remarks, you will learn quite a bit. He is definitely NOT a sock puppet.

Ryan Tucker!
He is not even in the top 100 based on what? The fact that marlins suggesdted he might move to the pen for a season just because the have limited financial resources. I SERIOUSLY doubt Florida is going to take an arm like that, who just turned 21 and dominated AA ball and permanently make him a reliever. He’s as good or better than Neise (who should be higher…just my opinion), and is a much better prospect than some guys being floated around right now. Duffy is a nice little lefty but has had arm issues and hasnt shown he can pitcha whole season

Question
I looked at his numbers and they are terrible. Is there something I am missing here? Perhaps a brilliant scouting report?

Bogusevic's numbers are terrible?
.347/.431/.508 this past season in AA, and the Arizona Fall League. Those are terrible?
by byronlhsdrmr on Dec 15, 2008 5:28 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
My bad
I was looking at the pitching numbers for Brian Bogusevic. I didn’t realize he is now a hitter. Unfortunately I can’t follow every prospect in the minors. Also, could people PLEASE post the FIRST names when posting testers. If not, I will no longer consider that player to be added, as I have no desire to figure out which player to which you are referring.

Still no
Why? Well, lets see. Bogie has how many AB? 150 or so? Its the same theory of what happens when a new player comes up that is slightly unknown – no one can figure out his weaknesses. I saw Bogie hit at Tulane and he was definitely an above average hitter. But to say that he’s now back on track after taking years off is ludicrous. There is no way he’ll approach what he could have been as a hitter if that path was chosen for him out of college.
Bogie could be good, but the small sample size is not enough to judge him as better than Lambo/Reddick/Doolittle who are younger and therefore have a greater chance of progression. Remember what Ankiel did was unprecedented. To expect people like Loewen or Bogusevic to repeat Ankiel’s success story is inane. If he does, power to him. But I need to see more than 150 AB to anoint him to be better than some younger, but still very talented hitters.

Coghlan!!!
Now that DeJesus is on the list, Coghlan should be added back to the polls. I think a lot of DeJesus supporters were also Coghlan supporters so the votes were being split.

Are you effing kidding me?
How on God’s green earth does one justify ranking Hank Conger this high? So far he’s had two half-seasons, both seasons he’s gotten hurt, and both season’s he’s hit pretty meh with meh reports on his defense and almost no ability to take a walk.

Almost totally agree
He’s hit reasonably well for his age and context. Injuries have dragged down his performance – I think the thing that really hurts his value is that he’s just not going to be a catcher. Position-wise he profiles at 1B or maybe in a dream world as a ghastly LF.

Tester
Jairo Heredia, RHP Yankees.
At age 18 in the SAL, he put up a 3.25 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 102 1/3 innings, and kept the ball on the ground with a 1.96 GO/AO ratio. 43 walks was a few too many but overall a pretty solid performance at 18 in full-season ball.
