Brad Holt
Combination of huge potential and a solid, if not great, debut

Tazawa first?
I think he’s going to regret that… Im sure Tazawa is going to be pretty good – and soon, but there are a lot of higher ceiling guys I would have gone with first

Way too risky to take him over that glut of good college hitters.

Hell, If you wanted to go the high upside international guy route why not go Inoa?

Tazawa is way more likely to meaningfully contribute in the majors.

Unless I’m missing someone, Collier looks pretty good. I thought he was 2nd to only Hicks as far as OF spects go.
Do you lose them if they didn’t sign? You could try taking a chance on Cole or Meyer and just sit on them as I did in BNSL.
Chisenhall has looked good. His bat was definitely first round quality but the concerns over makeup held him back a bit. I still don’t think he can stick at SS but either way his bat is nice.
Holt wouldn’t be bad either…
There are a lot of other guys I like but not sure this early. Good luck with the pick.

Aaron Crow
could be a steal. I also like Jeremy Bleich or Allan Dykstra. Adys Portillo for a sleeper pick.

Do you have the #30 pick?
If so, then Tanner Scheppers might be a decent high risk/high upside pick, if that’s the route you want to go. If you’re able to draft someone who hasn’t signed yet but will sign, this wouldn’t be a bad spot to pick Koji Uehara.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

Hahaha
I’m in this league so I’m taking note of all suggestions you guys are making and writing them down haha…

ah
The Indians. The haha gives you away every time.

And I desperately wanted Collier at 2.1, so thanks for nothing people.

Collier
I was leaning Collier, I just needed someone to back up my feeling. I also seriously considered Schlereth, because he got rated as a 4 star and will likely be a top 100 guy for KG.
I feel better if that is the guy Tony wanted. I wanted something closer to major league ready and ended up with Skipworth and Collier…of well, I guess I got Quentin through my trade down so that accomplished my goal.

Ahh damn Tony. See Ben is in the BNSL with me, really wish you would have taken me up on my offer. Heck, you could have been in the same division. ;)

So......
This is where everyone is hanging out…..
The Tigers are only 11 pitchers, 1 SS, 1 C, 1 3B, and a DH from winning the WS in 2009.

Weeks
I believe the rest of the league gets a collective “haha” back for drafting Jemile Weeks over Melville, Decker, etc.

I like Weeks plenty. Why is everyone acting like the ship has sailed? Is is “too many good prospects syndrome?” Like how people refuse to believe Michael Bowden is a very good pitching prospect because the Sox have had too many of those recently? Weeks is damn good, damn talented and came from a great major college program. He will be at worst a useful major leaguer.
by alskor on Dec 11, 2008 7:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Not so much
Bowden is a good prospect, but I just don’t see Weeks ever developing any kind of serious power. Guys with no power don’t usually retain on-base percentage at higher levels as pitchers realize they can challenge the hitter and not get hurt. A guy who can’t handle SS or CF and who doesn’t hit for power isn’t much of a prospect.
by OccamsRazor on Dec 12, 2008 6:43 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think theres a decent chance he can handle SS, and I think there is a good chance his patience translates. He played in the ACC… Guys who have great contact skills can certainly maintain their OBP as they advance.
Where are we getting the impression he doesnt have power anyway? His SLG in college:
.555
.489
.641
Again, that’s not at Rinky Dink U – he played at Miami against pretty much all guys who were drafted. He looks like he will have decent power for a middle infielder and his body could certainly mature into some more power. He’s only 21.
This is exactly what I meant. People seem to have formed some image of Weeks in their mind(maybe due to his brother) and are running with it without taking a second look at him. He’s a damn good prospect. He was a 1st round pick less than a year ago by a pretty smart organization. If he doesnt make it to “average major leaguer” its going to be because of injuries.

Touche
I hate Jemile, but I need some sort of second base future. I know who else I wanted, but I’ve got another round and a half to go. So I’m screwed either way. I don’t want to wait on more pitching.

It looks like the Yankees are having a bang up draft
and besides, you can just tell by his picks that he’s a damn handsome man.

Cardinals and White Sox
both had excellent first rounds.

I was going to say
It’s pretty remarkable that Inoa fell so far to LAD. Very fortunate, that guy.

Do the Orioles no longer get a pick?
What’s the deal?
by Dr Orpheus on Dec 12, 2008 5:50 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I imagine you can trade them so he probably just traded it away.
