Phil Hughes
Came back with a pretty nice outing in AFL. 5 innings, 1 hit, no walks, 8ks. The New York Post was burying him after hanson smoked him in that stars game. Quoted all kinds of negativosity from scouts out there. perhaps buried prematurely.
Not to get carried away but encouraging for him. He was coming back from an injury (again), and i don't think his Trenton season could be a complete mirage. Plus, he pitched ok in 2007 and even pitched well against Indians in the playoffs that year.

The jury is still out
on him. it appears the yankees are offering him in packages (how much of that is true remains to be seen), but the untouchable tag seems to be off. If the Yankees are shopping him and they are in desperate need for pitching that says something to me.
"not to get carried away"
I don’t think I was jumping on a bandwagon. People jumped off quick although he was injured (again, as i pointed out).
Letting him battle for a 5th spot behind Wang, Pettiitte, CC, and Joba (id Pettitte comes back, if CC comes, if Moose retires, etc.) doesn’rt seem like a bad option.
People dumped all over Quentin before last year even though he ws injured in 2007. Well, maybe not people. I did. :) I remember seeing him look pretty lame on tv, and Ron Darling said “I don’t know what the scouts saw, his swing looks awfully long.”
Anyway, I was just pointing out a positive note to build on.
Quentin....
I dont’ mean to brag but here is my prediction for him on April 10th:
“I see Quentin becoming a hitter who can hit .280 and pop 30 out of the yard. If he can stay healthy then Sox fans better look out.”
Not looking to shabby now!!!!

nice call
I let Ron darling’s one game observation influence me. i traded Carlos for Rafael Perez in 2007. Middlemen are valuable in my league, but aaaargghhhhhhh!
I acquired him in my keeper league for Brandon Lyon before the season. I am loving that deal.

Belated Thanks
I grabbed him in a league almost right after this diary, and rode him to victory. Thanks to you, Moneyball and Scott AZ.
Although technically you qualified your call with “if he can stay helathy,” and he missed a bunch of time with the broken wrist. ;-)

Hanson
Hughes definitely outpitched Hanson tonight! Hanson had the nerve to give up a HR tonight and he allowed 2 hits! His line was 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K, he definitely needs to be traded to San Diego!
didn't see hanson's line
Wow. I have him on my fantasy team. Looking good. Unlike cashman, I dealt hughes for Johan Santana in my league.
I'd encourage that!
I have him in a keeper league, I am all for a trade to San Diego! haha
