So no Simmons

and instead we get Betances and Kila? That’s messed up.

by alskor on Nov 29, 2008 2:15 AM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Simmons

I stated in the LAST poll:

I have added him as a tester. Please note that there are quite a few prospects to get to that haven’t been on the polls yet before I get to him.

Everyone can’t have their favorite tester on each poll. I increased the minimum percentage requirement to 7% in order to speed up the testers. If you notice we have SIX new guys this poll. Simmons will get on the poll soon enough but there are still five testers who have still not been on a poll. It is getting a little tiring having to deal with all the various complaints and to maintain a balance that satisfies everybody. If I put Simmons on this poll I will have people, who have been waiting for a tester (ie. Niese) to be polled, complain to me that he is not on the poll even though Niese was added as a tester first. When I don’t put Simmons on a poll I get “That’s messed up”. If everyone would just be patient it would really make my life a lot easier.

Something like ten people said they would vote for him if he was on the poll in the last thread.

What’s more important? The polling system? Or getting a list that makes sense?

I dont understand the rules youve created for testers and what not – but if theyre creating results that dont make sense they should be ignored. Its not just Simmons. Whatever the rationale for the testers we are now at a point where most people who are voting seem to believe there are a group of better players that arent on the list. If this means Dellin Betances or 25 year Kila Kildfefhaggahue gets “cheated” out of a tester, that’s too bad, IMHO. This has been the common thread of comments in the last ten or so threads. The best players available arent on the poll. Not just one. The next group of players available.

wow.

back off and perhaps be a bit appreciative that King BIlly Royal is taking all of the time to do this, and in a much more organized and excellent way than in years past. Also, it’s just a list…relax.

+/-1

alskor has a point. I appreciate what KBR and pinstripes have done and the system worked early on for cycling players on/off the list, but it is no longer working. Not just a little out of whack – it’s very pronounced right now – most of the testers are much better than the players being voted on and it’s been that way for a while.

by slurve on Nov 29, 2008 11:54 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

In fact

I’d say it’s time to make wholesale changes to the voting list. I’d move to swap the testers list with the voting list.

by slurve on Nov 29, 2008 11:56 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

and that's all fine

As long as we’re reasonably patient, polite and progressive as you were above, Slurve. I don’t think it’s as if the people kindly organizing this are trying to rig it, if we need to make changes, let’s suggest some in a constructive manner and see what makes sense.

by benzalman on Nov 29, 2008 12:06 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't think

anyone thinks anyone is trying to rig anything other than the ballot stuffing. At the same time, I understand the frustration alskor is displaying as there has been a “my way or the highway” attitude when it has come to getting this thing back on a reasonable track. It’s gotten to the point that they either need radical change or this thing has completely run its course. Maybe they’re OK with that, which is fine too.

by slurve on Nov 29, 2008 12:14 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Did you notice how I changed it to 7%?

I did that to speed up the testers as it should get 5-6 new guys on the poll each time.

I don't get why players that have already been 'tested' in the poll

are getting placed in front of players on there for the first time.

well thanks for raising the percentage

not exactly what I would have had, but at least you’re acknowledging the necessity for change.

The 2008 Rogelio Moret League Fantasy Baseball Champions!

jake mcgee leads the current poll

(14 votes) although he is coming off TJ surgery and was not dominant at AA this year. Tabata and Perez come next (10 votes), and while young, I don’t think they have performed well enough quite yet to be on the list this high. Then Gorkys at 8 votes. Same thing. .348/.387 at AA even at 20 doesn’t do it for me. I need to see some performance.

I went with Kila. I know, old and another 1B, and the season was out of whack with the rest of his career to a degree. But it was such a monster season, and, although some of had said this is a fantasy baseball list, there is a reason fantasy baseball rewards huge sluggers with patience. They are the guys who help you win, as in real life (especially if your league gives points for runs, homers, etc.).

But I can see folks hesitating to vote for Kila. I think Jones, Donald, Dejesus, Blanks and Taylor all make sense right around here. Certainly more sense than the current top 4 vote-getters (or James Simmons, who maybe I’d put toward the back of the top 100.

other...poreda

still can’t believe he’s not on yet. i can’t imagine any list will have him this low.

by Craig Grebeck on Nov 29, 2008 9:48 AM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Poreda

I’d take him over Mcge. Better numbers this year and no TJ surgery.

by wobatus on Nov 29, 2008 10:17 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i'd have him pegged around 80.

and i think most reputable lists will, too. which makes it kind of odd he isn’t even on the poll.

he was on poll at 77

and got 6% of the vote. He’ll be back on eventually.

by wobatus on Nov 29, 2008 10:59 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i understand that.

i’m just finding his (eventual) low ranking on this list rather odd. i suppose once we get past about 50 or so you’ve got a lot of prospects that don’t have a whole lot of daylight between them and aren’t as well known by people. but poreda was regarded by most commentators as a top 100 prospect last year and has improved his stock in the eyes of most scouts considering he now actually has a secondary offering to go with his fastball. rather odd to not see any improvement on his ranking. whatever.

yeah, my "this low" comment had more to do with the fact that he's getting waxed by some pretty questionable guys.

he’s obviously not the sexiest pick at this point, but he’s more of a safe pick than a lot of guys.

by Craig Grebeck on Nov 29, 2008 11:16 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

well, yeah.

this list got silly a while ago. not sure a community list like this really works much past 50.

All the guys on the list are great and would likely make solid major leaguers down the line, but none of them strike me as major league “stars”. Gorkys Hernandez? Martin Perez? Fringe major leaguers at best.

Adam Miller is surely a HUGE injury risk, but if he can stay healthy (a huge if…I know) he’s got “star” written all over him.

by fartballs on Nov 29, 2008 9:58 AM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The problem with Miller

You don’t need him to stay healthy. You need him to become healthy. That might be like asking him to become taller.

by aap212 on Nov 29, 2008 11:04 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Miller and McGee

Maybe the back end of the top 100 due to the injury risk.

Voting

Matt Moore. There’s nobody left in the minor leagues I’d rather have in my system.

by slamcactus on Nov 29, 2008 11:47 AM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I like Rodriguez, but...

The Yankee Stadium radar gun is not a good piece of evidence to lean on. I think they still have Moyer breaking 90.
