Canadian Baseball League Fantasy Game

The Situation:

In a rage of patriotic stupidity, Bud Selig contracts the Toronto Blue Jays and moves the team to the states. The Ottawa Lynx moved to Allentown, and unplanned, but necessary for this game, the Vancouver Canadians move south as well. Outraged, a grassroots movement known as Friends of Baseball In Canada, along with many conglomerate Canadian companies have started a 10 team league known as the Canadian League Baseball. It is an independant league. There is 5 teams in the East (Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City, and Montreal)and 5 teams in the West (Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg).

The Game:

There will be a 25-man draft to fill your roster. However, there is a bank of players, the 2008 Minor League Free Agent List below

http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=1786#more-1786

The real challenge is filtering the talent on the list. At the end of the draft, there will be votes to determine the winner.

Only players from the list can be selected

Anyone Interested?

suggested realignment

Take out Regina (194000), move Winnipeg to the West (cause it is more West than East) and add in Hamilton to the East – (692,000). There’s a good argument to be made for Quebec City (792k) over Halifax (372K) as well, but the if you want Maritimes representation, Halifax should do fine.

Geography

Hamilton is very close to Toronto and I’m trying to incorporate the coastal provinces, but in this case I’ll move Winnipeg and add QC

Scoring?

Would we be able to keep score of our “players” for next season? If so, how would we grade players who play on different levels?

by ofsticksandbats on Nov 28, 2008 2:11 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think

the idea is simply to draft the best team possible from the available minor leaguers and then have others (?) vote on who did the best job. Purely a “fun” exercise IMO.

I would be interested

in playing. Sounds like fun.

Couple of questions

DH or no? How do we decide who gets what city? Once we have our city, can we determine what type of park we’ll have? Or will it just be considered a neutral park? I haven’t gone and check altitudes of any of the cities, but are we looking at any type of Coors Field effect? Sorry for the questions, but this kind of stuff will help with the manner in which you construct a team.

Erm...

I really don’t think it’s supposed to be that sophisticated.

by cwhitman412 on Nov 28, 2008 5:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well

probably not. But the more details you get, the better you can draft your team.

Eh....

It’s not really that sophisticated as Whitman said, just a setting and all.

Pick a city as you join the draft, sorry I should have mentioned that.

Question: Are minor league free agents that have already signed with teams still in play?

by JonBBT on Nov 30, 2008 8:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Answer

Yes, everyone on the list is still in play

More specific – what is the order of selection – will you do the picking for the “open” teams? Can I possibly also run a second franchise? Maybe Quebec City?

by ofsticksandbats on Dec 5, 2008 9:41 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

We'll go with 5

Players may be limited.

1. Vancouver
2. Halifax
3. Toronto
4. Edmonton.
5. Saskatoon

Random order, snake style

is it too late to sign up?

I’ll play. Doesn’t matter which team, and I can pick last if we’ve started drafting already

Halifax Selects

SS- Callix Crabbe

A noob or n00b is someone that lacks intellegance or common sense, most people think that noob is a word used only in the online gaming world, but in reality it is becoming an ever popular word with teenage society.

a noob could be simply a level 100 running round shouting ‘’WTF DO I GO!?’’ or someone calling someone else a noob and then getting hit with a brick, anyone can call anyone a noob, but normally they are noobs themselves
