this choice is terrible.
you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
When they should be sacrifice bunting, they are buying effeminate designer jeans. When they should be fouling off pitches, they are masturbating. Always, they are masturbating.

17 years old. maybe by the time he’s 23 he’ll be john danks, but he’s nowhere near that right now and there’s a huge likelihood he never will be.

Agreed
I think someone (maybe Jim Callis?) threw a Johan Santana comp on this kid and people are eating that up. He has a looooong way to go.

great, a flyball pitcher who does nothing exceptionally. is there any organization in baseball that doesn’t have dan cortes?

solid power and discipline, with decent speed. but his batting average has dropped 30 points through each stop in A ball, and he’s not a plus defender.

probably the best of the bunch. he’s got a live arm, and tremendous stats, plus he’s advanced past A ball. he’s out for a while with TJ, but at least he has both an awesome upside and a solid chance at reaching it.

he hits for average and power and plate discipline, but none are better than slightly above average, and as a 1Bman, at least one of those skills have to be great for him to stand out.

tremendous raw power, solid defense, but is he gonna hit for average? i’d say .260 would be a stretch for him, and he doesn;t have the discipline to make up for it.

yeah, todd frazier has no position because he might not stick at SS, but what do we call someone who has no lateral quickness at age 19, with not enough speed to play LF?
he can flat hit, though.

well, at least he managed to hit .340. what? that was only a 90 AB sample with a .410 BABIP, oh well, i’m sure we can overlook the other 1000+ ABs where he’s been anywhere from terrible to ‘hey, i can hit .300! what power or discipline?’

O yea...
your right. Tabata has not shown he can hit every other year in the minors. He has one pretty bad year as a 20 year old in AA and your talking like he should not even be on the top 100 list. He has shown he can hit for average and steal bases. The power will come later.

in 5 years, i could imagine that tabata will be a very nice, alex rios type player
but in the mid, i don’t think it’s very likely that he’ll be an effective major league player, and i can’t imagine voting for someone who i think will need to hit .310 to be better than replacement level in the next 4 years.

anyone that would turn into an alexis rios type player deserves to be a top 100 prospect. Not saying he would, but you threw that out there.
But I do agree with you that Donald, for one, is more deserving than anyone on the ballot.

Some people were projecting him as a reliever before the TJ. Now that he has elbow troubles, the chances that he ends up as a quality set-up man or closer rather than a plus starter are much higher.

Are much higher
as is 100% that he doesnt become a starter. He’s in the bullpen in the minors for 09.
Between injury, risk and bullpen I dont think he’s a top 100 anymore – at least until he comes back and shows me something in 09.

the whole testers and 30 people on the poll is screwed up
people who didn’t get 5% because there are 15 people on the poll should be put back on quickly and not sit out many votes, weglarz should be on this list, he was getting a decent number of votes until one bad showing
by IHateMitchMustain on Nov 27, 2008 6:09 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Its 12 people on each poll
Also, if somebody had a high % on a poll (i.e. 3-4%) I have been trying to get them back on the polls sooner rather then later. Weglarz will be back on fairly shortly.

Voted for Burgess
Love this kid, don’t know why other people don’t . . .he’s very young, has plus-plus power and draws some walks. Strikes out a ton, but with a deceptively decent eye for his age and his tremendous bat speed the potential is there for him to improve on this. Good athlete with a strong arm.
I can’t really think of a good comp. Toolshed with big power, bat speed, and problems with strikeouts makes me think of Glenallen Hill, but Glenallen was bigger and right-handed.

If guys like Elvis Andrus are ranked 24, Alcides Escobar is 49, and Adrian Cardenas is 57, then it is completely insane that DeJesus isn’t top 75 (especially since DeJesus is better than Escobar and Cardenas)

My hypothesis...
right now the list contains a bunch of guys who do not deserve to be this high. So, what happens is we all vote evenly across the board. No one gets under 5% and leaves the list, and more deserving players Weglarz, Adam Miller, etc. Heck, I have not seen DeJesus move up at all on the testers list, and he should have made an appearance on the poll already, same for Scott Elbert – still has a great arm. What I’m saying is that we need some fresh prospects… although Tabata, Poreda, and Blanks I would vote for soon.
I hope Gorkys or Cortes do not win this poll… vote for Tabata!
