BA Twins Top 10
| 1. Aaron Hicks, of |

| 2. Ben Revere, of |

| 4. Jose Mijares, lhp |

| 5. Danny Valencia, 3b |

| 7. Shooter Hunt, rhp |
|
| 8. Kevin Mulvey, rhp |
|
| 9. Carlos Gutierrez, rhp |

10. Angel Morales, of - Didn't expect Mijares to be that high on the list, but he did have a good year. - Morales seems low. - Hicks/Revere is close, could see arguments either way. I'd agree with Hicks - higher ceiling, I believe. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/organization-top-10-prospects/2009/267227.html |

Hicks over Revere, I like it.
Can anybody tell me something about Carlos Gutierrez. Does he profile as a starter or reliever?

The
twins seem to him as a starter at least in the minors.

Gutierrez
It sounds like the Twins intend to use him as a starter. He was a closer his last year in college because he was coming of TJ surgery, and the Twins had him pitch out of the pen once they got him, but I keep hearing they’ll switch him over next year.
From what I understand he doesn’t really have any secondary stuff worth talking about, but apparently he’s got a sinker in the low to mid 90s that the Twins were really impressed with.

Gutierrez
He’s closed games for Miami after coming off TJ’s in 2007. The Twins are going to try him in the rotation cause of his plus plus sinker (From mouth of Callis) He’’s throws a slider and change but both are works in progress.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see him in a MLB pen cause of his lack of secondary stuff, but the Twins are hoping he can put it all the together in the Derek Lowe mold.

Odd duck
I watched some of his CWS games (I was trying to scout Jemile Weeks a bit). He only has one pitch but it’s a sinker that seemingly drops about a foot on the way to the plate. It’s almost impossible to hit it in the air.
He’s like an overhand version of Brad Ziegler. Seems like he’s destined for the pen, but maybe it really is sufficiently difficult to hit that pitch that he can throw it 80 times a game.

so much for Guerra being special
and Robertson out of the top 10.

Robertson
I think Robertson and Parmelee (if healthy) are gonna really put up monster numbers next season at Fort Myers.
As for Guerra I’m willing to throw away 2008 as they were reworking him mechanics. But if it continues into 2009 he’s cooked.

Parmelee
I wouldn’t expect Parmelee to put up big numbers. He is coming off a wrist injury so his power numbers will most likely suffer next year.

Guerra
was overrated to begin with. He was all projection at the time of the trade and he still is.

and good stuff
and two years of good pitching in A-ball leagues at ages 17 and 18.
Quite a WTF comment

He doesnt strike out many
and walks a lot of guys.
Good Stuff = Projection when youre not getting the results.
Im looking at his age 17 and 18 performances… I would not classify them as “good.” In the Sally league he limited hits well, but walked over 4 per 9 and posted unimpressive strikeout totals. Not unusual for a big dude with good stuff. In his first time around the FSL his K totals dropped, but that was the closest year to “good.” Still, only 89 IP.
Now that his stuff is supposedly less impressive than before… well, Im not a fan. I hardly think its a stretch to say he’s been overrated or that he is more projection than results. He hasnt been impressive at all.

Any thoughts on Jeff Manship?
Does he project to be anything more than a back of the rotation guy?

Manship
When you’ve got Liriano, Baker and Slowey at the top of the rotation, I think back of the rotation for the Twins would be good. I’ve liked Manship, good kid, great makeup, smart… I saw him pitch in Saturday’s AFL Championship game and came away impressed. He threw over 190 innings this year, and his stuff looked really good. Good fastball, looked like it had something extra. Good changeup that he improved over the season. Very good curveball. I think he’ll start next year back in New Britain. He may get the whole year there dependent upon what’s going on in Rochester, but he could be a #3 or #4 type of starter… I don’t consider that a negative.

Guiterrez
He’ll be a reliever, they just wanted him to develop another pitch…his sinker is major league ready now.

Revere should be #1
Followed by Ramos THEN Hicks. Just my opinion.

Benson
How does BA have Joe Benson #2 last year and then out of the top 10 this year?

justification
you would think ba would at least have him at #10 this year to justify them putting him at #2 this year. lots of young guys have bad years and don’t fall out of an organizations top 10 the next.

Bromberg
This is a guy I Think could really take off in 2009. Maybe make that David Hernandez type step up. If he cuts the walks some, he could be pretty good. I still expect him to be in most Twins top 20 lists. I also like Slama(though his numbers werent great in AFL) to be moved along quick

Has pitched sensationally
but the question is what does he do against tougher opposition. I hope the Twins put him in AA this year so we can find out

Relievers
Anthony Slama and Rob Delaney both had career years. I’m surprised Delaney didn’t make the list, I knew BA was high on him
