Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

EY Jr.

I have read that Eric Young Jr. would most likely top out as a utility player.  I haven't seen him play, but I was wondering if you guys can shed some more light on why he is not getting more sniffs from the community?

from what I see stat wise, he has produced at every level.  He is a little old to make ultra propecters drool, but he has game changing speed, leadoff caliber OBP and walks, and a very respectable BA.  He K's a little too much, and the glove needs work.  He is capable of hitting a homerun.

From what I read, he has the drive to refine his skills and keep improving on the little things to help the team.

I just get the feeling that he could be an everyday player, which to me would mean that he should be a reasonable prospect (yet he really gets no attention in here).

Fantasy guys should be hoping he gets a shot after some time in AAA.

I think he improved with the glove this year...can someone reference a website where I can check fielding stats please?

Your thoughts?!

I think 3 solid years in a row

have moved Eric Young past the point of potential utility player. His OPS has been above league average every full year he has played, although Colorado’s string of hitter friendly parks inflates that a bit. I think Jr. compares very well to his dad and maybe in a little better as he has slugged slightly higher then his dad did in the minors, I also like his steal success rate in the minors. I don’t think that it is unreasonable to expect a career very similar to his dad’s although I must say that he isn’t a 100 prospect in my mind because he lacks that star ceiling and there is still a chance he ends up in the outfield

I like him

Like you said – game changing speed, and improving defense at 2B, makes him a wonderful fantasy player and an above-average leadoff hitter in the bigs. EY Jr is one of those guys that you have to grab in a fantasy league for his potential SB’s. But as an overall prospect he’s just ok. I will consider him for the bottom part of my top 100, but that’s it. Put a top 100 from strictly a fantasy perspective though, and he easily ranks in the top 50.
