Pick 1 guy from this list.
Tommy Hunter
Clayton Richard
Mitch Talbot
If you could only have 1 of these guys for your major league 40 man roster, who would it be? I know that none profile as an ace or even a #2, but maybe these guys could be a solid MLB player at some point. Anyone have a personal favorite here? Hunter and Richard both made it through 4 levels this past season which is really hard to do, so its not surprising that neither looked great in their MLB debuts. Talbot posted the best K/IP and K/BB rates. Also, you have to be afraid of Hunter playing his home games in Texas...pitchers just get nurdered there. Richard posted an ugly ERA in his time in the majors but posted a 2/1 groundball to flyball ratio(88/48).
Talbot had the highest average fastball at 91.6, Hunter came in at 91.2 and Richard at 89.9.
So, if your team could only protet 1 on their major league 40 man roster, who would it be? Who has the higest ceiling? Who is most likely to be a decent major league player?
all opinions welcome.
thanks
Charlie

Man
This is tough. I can’t think of 3 more mediocre 40th man types than these. I’d take Richard, as he should have a role with the Sox this year, and did show some potential, even if back-end, last year. Again, very close with similar #5SP/swingman outlooks.

Hunter
just because he was a two-time junior Olympic champion in judo. That and Hunter’s Curve is probably the best secondary pitch of the 3.
Got to love a large SP that would absolutely thrash a guy that would ever attempt to charge the mound. I know if that got on my scouting report as a pitcher I would throw inside more and dare somebody to come at me…

Richard....
I drafted him last season because I love his low BB/9 numbers and high GB%. So he isn’t giving free passes, and even if he does it won’t hurt him as much because he is less prone to the gopherball.

Probably Richard
Hunter’s not an option here. Richard has a chance to be decent to average.
