Aaron Cunningham

I am thinking of adding him to the list. Is this to early? What can people tell me about his game besides the numbers?

What about Jefry Marte?

Any thoughts on this 17 year old who performed great in rookie ball?

I'm a Mets fan

But he’s not a top 100 prospect. He’s not necessarily in the Mets top 10.

by supermets on Nov 15, 2008 3:41 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I have him top 10.

I might put him ahead of Carp, Havens, or Kunz but behind Flores, Niese, Holt, Evans, and Parnell. Heck, Evans put up pretty much the same numbers over 326 PA in AA that Marte put up in the GCL. And, Evans is a plus defender at 1B (and can play some LF or 3B). He’s probably better than more than one 1B already on there, and I still don’t think he belongs.

Flores will be the next Met on. Then Niese likely in the 60-80 range.

Lambo!

Kid can rake.

Small sample but held his own at the AA level after jumping from Low A (MWL).

Future JD Drew (the good and healthy version, lol).

can’t really say he played at AA when he played that few games.

Especially Daryl Jones. Given the enthusiasm for him on this site, I’m really surprised we haven’t heard from him already.

Action Jackson

errrr Austin Jackson. Defense, defense, defense. Oh, and his bat projects pretty well at the position.

how?

he hasn’t even played above GCL yet?

Of course he has

He skipped over the GCL entirely.
And he ended the season in the NYPL (where top college draft picks go).

Mikey Main

As a Rangers fan, I view him as a better prospect than ramirez so he needs to be here.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

by hero66 on Nov 15, 2008 2:19 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I would like to see Carrasco back soon

He put very good numbers in both AA and AAA this year for a 21 year old.

On a side note, I really do not understand this obsession with power hitters with big holes in their swings but really Flowers is a better prospect than Carter by a good margin. Flowers managed to walk more and hit for higher average in a tougher hitting environment. Furthermore, Carter’s power numbers are seriously inflated by the California League. At least when Brandon Wood hit a similar number in 2005 he posted a high average and had a K rate of less than 25 %. The thing is his numbers had a significant decline in AA, in the case of Carter, his .259 average will only get worse and his K rate could reach 33 % of all his ABs.

Carrasco

He got his butt handed to him last poll so it will be at least a few polls till I get him back on.

is it me or is there less OF's on this list

as usual…only 7 out of 50+

1/2 of them were in the top 10…is there a lack of overall depth in quality OF’s?

I voted AJax, but I can understand people voting Main.

If I’m honest, if there’s one Rangers prospect that deserves to get placed higher than you expect, it’s probably Main. Some of the guys who cover Rangers prospects (Mike Hindman, Jason Parks) are putting him either 1 or 2 overall in our system, ahead of guys like Feliz, Smoak and sometimes Holland.

by LiamP on Nov 15, 2008 5:17 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I voted Lambo, but...

I think Sean Doolittle should get a tester, and here’s why. First, the numbers:

165 GP
644 AB
51 2B/3B
30 HR
.287/.355/.512/.867

About 2/3 of these numbers were compiled in Single-A Stockton, with the rest mostly in AA-Midland and the balance in the Arizona Fall League. This is strong Age Relative to Level— Doolittle was just 21 years old this season.

Scouting report: Doolittle was considered to be a hitter for average coming out of college, with a great stroke but not a lot of power. Power has obviously showed up this season, and he should continue to grow into more as he fills out and has more time as a hitter (he was a two-way player in college). His plate discipline decayed slightly this year, but not much; he’s got a good eye at the plate. If there’s a knock on this season, it’s strikeouts— he has 181 whiffs on the year. His swing has apparently lengthened some, which might account for the strikeouts. In prior years, however, his K rate was not nearly as high, so perhaps it will come down as his comfort level improves.

He’s considered to be an outstanding defensive 1B, with gold glove potential. He’s also played some right field. As a former pitcher, he obviously has a good arm, and while not fast, he’s mobile (8 steals this year).

Overall, he looks like he can develop into a 1B with good power (20 to 30 HR a year), a solid batting average, a good walk rate and outstanding defense at first or good defense at corner outfield. That’s a reasonable projection, mind you, not some pie-eyed “ceiling” call. I think he deserves to make the list sometime within the next 20 players.

What are your opinions on Triunfel?

Find it weird not a lot of people are vocal about voting for him…

I've been vocal about him on past threads

And I’m too hungover to do a very good job of it now. But I think he’s got a good chance to stick at 2B, he’s got great upside with the bat, and he held his own at a level with players two or three years older than him, getting better as the year went on. He’s a high risk guy, but he has greater star potential than pretty much anyone left.

by aap212 on Nov 15, 2008 5:18 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Truinfel

Could be higher on the list if he didn’t have a poor first half of the season. Where he was having personal issues with the coaches. Reports are he’s been pretty self centered. After a particular incident with a coach he was suspended by the M’s. After he got over that though he had a wonderful second half of the season where he hit .348 and started hitting the ball with some power. He did play in a particularly hitter friendly park at High Desert. He probably doesn’t have the range to stay at SS, and has played some time at second base where he will probably stay. He’s got an utter canon for an arm and could easily move to third if he keeps developing power. He’s shown ability on the basepaths as well with 30 steals this last year. He was the youngest player in his league by a decent margin this year and will be turning 19 before next year. His cieling is way up there, some people have compared him to Miguel Cabrera, but most people agree he’s closer to Miguel Tejada. But he’s still got a lot of risk for that much reward.

lol @ rangers fans

the moment a rangers prospect pops up on the poll he gets a ton of votes. where is the site this poll is being linked at?

by bravitos5122 on Nov 15, 2008 5:24 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

hmm

Then by that logic Martin Perez should have gotten a lot of votes when he was added to the poll…right? Guys who cover the Rangers minor leaguers have been hyping Main hard this offseason because of what they saw in him at instructs. That hype hasn’t gotten beyond Rangers fans yet, understandably. And hype has a lot to do with these polls, so you’re seeing Rangers fans vote for a guy they see as one of the top guys in their system, perhaps even the #1 prospect in the system.

It’s not a conspiracy. I promise.

by naropean on Nov 15, 2008 5:51 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ranger fan here

For the most part so far I personally feel all the Rangers prospects have been ranked around where they should have been. I can certainly understand people not liking it. I can also understand Ranger fans view of our prospects.

With Main, if you simply looked at pure numbers then he probably wouldn’t make a top 100 list or would be at the bottom of one. But he has garnered massive amounts of praise from many many scouts both within our organization and from around the league. As Liam pointed out above there are a couple Ranger “insiders” (and I use that term loosely not referring to their job but how in touch with the organization they are) who have ranked Main as the best of all Ranger prospects. Ahead of Smoak, Feliz, and Holland.

Personally I voted Truinfel here. I think Main is around the 60 point of this list and I won’t be voting for him until closer to that point.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Chris Marrero

I’m sure a lot of people have forgotten about him because of his injury last year but last year he’d already be on this list.

“Chris Marrero will need surgery to repair the broken fibula he suffered sliding into home on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season.
He’ll also need to repair ligaments in his ankle. The 19-year-old had gotten off to a slow start, but was hitting .352 in the 14 games before he was hurt. He’ll finish the season hitting .250 with 11 homers and 38 RBI in 70 games. GM Jim Bowden doesn’t think it will be a setback to Marrero’s long-term development, but it will obviously delay his debut with the Nats.”

I think

WE should put less people in the poll like 8 instead of 12 that the votes are spread put bias for your team prospect

Arencibia

30 HR power, legit defense behind the plate. Lack of BB keeps him out of the top 50, but he really should be on in the next 5 spots or so. I like him to hit better than a couple of the 1Bs already on the list.

All that said, I voted Bowden.

Rios is the next Juan Gonzales, thats right, I said it.
