Easy choice

I like the Butler/Bannister/Holland side by a wide margin.

Butler is a pure hitter and it’s just a matter of time before you see consistent .300 25+ HR seasons. Bannister is insignificant, however Holland is a future frontline starter.

Wow

I think its definitely the other side by a wide margin.

Really?

I just think all the much of Jonathan Sanchez. He is the consistent bad version of Oliver Perez.

I do like Brett Wallace’s hitting ability, but Conor Jackson doesn’t do much for fantasy teams. Aside from hitting for a solid average, he doesn’t offer much in terms of fantasy production. Guys like him are usually found on the waiver wire.

Sanchez

Was only 25 years old last season and it was his first year starting in the majors. He still put up decent numbers, which you can hypothesize will improve over the next few years.

Agree, but not because of Holland…

I like Holland, but the basic premise here is that Bulter > Jackson over the next five years. I then happen to like Holland a bit more than Sanchez (who is actually underrated). I consider Wallace an nonfactor and Bannister damn close to a nonfactor – except he can be used right now and in theory could provide some league average innings… at the very least someone you can play the matchups with.

I reject the notion that either side is a slam dunk, however…

Close

Conor Jackson would probably give you better numbers near term than Butler, but there seems to be more upside in the Butler + Holland pair than in anything in that other package. Wallace would be nice, but in the long run Jackson + Sanchez are kind of meh.

I suppose it really depends how much you believe in Holland. But I’d probably hold onto him here.

Conor Jackson’s pretty good and getting better. A lot of contact ability, although with limited power. He does walk a good amount, though. Sanchez is also very talented, although inconsistant. If he can maintain what he did the first half of last year, he could be very good. His ERA varies anywhere between 3.5-5 and his WHIP is usually always crappy. Also, you can’t expect a lot of wins out of him as long as he’s on the Giants. But he does bring a ton of K’s to the table. He generally strikes out more than 1 batter per inning. And Brett Wallace also projects to be a good 1B, although with limited power. Power doesn’t seem to be your weakness with David Ortiz, Nick Markakis, Raul Ibanez, and Troy Glaus, so I’d take that deal.

I would take...

Jackson, Sanchez, and Wallace. Jackson and Sanchez are already good big leaguers and Wallace seems to be on the fast track. Jackson is a good consistent hitter who could put up 300 avg and 25 homers a year which is not far off from Butler’s potential. Sanchez is a good starter on a team that will be getting this year. He has good stuff and good polish and has #2 potential. Brett Wallace has more power than almost anyone in the minors. I think his power is even slightly highers than Chris Carter’s. He could hit 40 homers a year and could be putting up 25-30 as early as 2009. I guess it depends on whether you want to take a risky pick with slightly more upside or a safer pick whose potential is not far off from the risky pick.

I would take the offer

Butler’s time at 1B may be limited by Jacobs and then Hosmer later on so he will be DH only, Bannister just isn’t any good and while Holland is a very good prospect it’s still one breakout year.

In return you get a good young 1B, a very good hitting prospect and a sleeper pitcher who will help you at the back end of your staff where you are a little weak.

This deal may hurt you long term but with a team like yours I’d be looking primarily at help in 09

Sanchez

Is the key to this deal, IMO. If you believe he will launch (I do), go for it. If you don’t, pass.
