Chuck Lofgren

What happened to this quasi-young lefty?  Did he completely stall out at AA after failing miserably at AAA?  Is it injury?  Is it a complete lack of control?  Is it in his head?  Did he lose his arsenal?  He showed such potential, and he is still fairly young.  He's in an organization that is starving for young pitching, so he should be fast-tracked if and when he finally regains his form.  Thus, is there any hope for him?

there is still some hope there

lofgren’s stuff is still there……..his FB is sitting at 88-92 in arizona like it always has……i think it’s his head that has been the biggest issue – it’s been rumored he was dealing with some personal problems this year

he can get straightened out, but he never really had that huge ceiling to begin with ……..not sure if his future is in the pen or the rotation, although it is worth nothing that the indians sent him to zona with the intention of him starting there

maybe he just needs a fresh start, and he’ll probably get it – he’s rule 5 eligible this year and i wouldn’t be shocked if the indians left him unprotected

He is going to do an interview with Tony Lastoria

to discuss his problems of the last two years. I have heard that there were serious personal issues that effected his performance. There are high hopes that he will put those issues behind him before spring training. I think I would have to disagree on his ceiling two years ago but that’s opinion.

I don’t expect him to be rostered as the indians have rostering problems on the rule 5 although some additional spots could open up as they get closer to the 20th. As good as I believe his ceiling to be, the Tribe is deep with LH starters, many of which are ML ready or close.

i was always skeptical

When his hype was at his peak, people were saying his fastball was mid-90’s and clocked around 95, and had #2 starter/borderline ace potential, but when I had seen him his velocity and overall stuff never really impressed me that much, and even then I thought #3 starter. While I wasn’t a fan, I think he’ll clearly do better than he did last season and it might take a while but he should be a decent mid-late rotation guy at some point
