John Raynor Anyone?
Listen,
Ok I know he isn't 18, and I know we all love to talk about top draft picks....but Raynor looks like he is going to be a major leaguer to me, possibly a very exciting one offensively.
No, he isn't going to hit 30, but is there any reason he can't hit .290 95 -13 -50 - 45?
Smells like Victorino/Damon type numbers. At 6'2", he might even top out with more power for a few years.
I read that the Marlins are even going to give him an extra sniff this spring. Florida is one of the few spots where a guy like this can crack the lineup too.
This kind of player is far more interesting to me than a light hitting 18 year old shortstop, or a pitcher who throws 98mph ball 4.
What am I missing? any info would be appreciated.

He is a solid player
Despite having good numbers, well-rounded tools, and a projectable frame, he was overlooked on his own college team. I’ve liked him since his Jr. year at UNC-W. Pure ballplayer.
His speed and arm are both plus tools, and he would have been more than capable of playing CF in AA last year… but FL wanted Maybin to play there. He would be a plus as a LF or RF and average or better in CF. Hes got a real good feel for the game, or at least it seems that way… hes just really fun to watch and knows how to apply his ample speed both offensively and defensively.
He strikes out a bit but he can sting some strong line drives to the gaps as well. His power is alot more impressive than you would guess from his really skinny frame. He isn’t a home run hitting slugger, but he can drive the ball very well.
Poor(ish) mans Curtis Granderson is one of the comps that sprung to mind for me.

He'll be
battling for the fourth outfield spot with Brett Carroll I think
Ross-Maybin-Hermida being the starters

Sounds About Right
He could get 300-350 ABs with Glass Joe Hermida taking his usual 2 months off in the middle of the season.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Hermida...
I would like to see the Marlins look into trading him if Raynor comes up and does well. Raynor can be more of a true lead-off hitter so they can more Hanley down to #3 in the line-up and take advantage of his power (with Uggla cleaning up). Also, if Coghlan does well to start the year in AAA, I think promoting him quickly (and moving the newly acquired Bonifacio to Utility) can get another speedy guy with OBP in the 2-hole. Could be like 2003 again with two speedy guys at the top of the order. Raynor-Coghlan-Hanley-Uggla as a top four is pretty nice I think. Or maybe try Maybin in the 3-hole moving Hanley and Uggla down a spot so there are no base-cloggers in front of him and he has good protection behind him in the line-up.
