Alonso is the clear choice for me here

…and i guess the sheep will follow John to the slaughterhouse with Briggy.

such a shame.

but hey, let’s keep voting on first baseman like Alonso, Freeman, Vitters. wooo

I love Briggy

I really think John missed the boat on this one. Shortstops who have decent power and a good glove deserve more respect.

i agree with you muchly

i think the fact that Barlett was the “MVP” of the best AL team of 2008 really echoes what a good defensive SS can do for a ballclub. I’m not saying Briggy is Bartlett right now, but in a couple eyars who knows.

throw in Briggy’s power, (which Bartlett can only dream of), and I will shed a tear if he falls out of the Top 50.

Sure

except Bartlett isn’t a good defensive shortstop. But outside of that, you are right.

"good"?

he’s over-rated, but I would argue that he is good. I think Briggy can surpass him though, for sure.

I don't think I am

http://jinaz-reds.blogspot.com/2008/10/preliminary-2008-total-value-estimates.html
Justin’s system rates Bartlett at +0.2 runs.

http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/030070.php
PMR has him barely over average

Dewan has him at +1.

He is average defensively. That doesn’t make him good. Back to the original point though, the fact that Bartlett was named the Rays MVP is about as bad as Nate McLouth winning a gold glove.

was it a down year?

for him to be ranked higher than GG winner Rollins…. while we all know those awards are kind of a farce, I still think he qualifies as “good”… the systems rank him as average, but compared to his everyday playing peers, he was above average.

looking over that list again, I thought Betancourt would be much higher based on what I hear… so I guess Barlett isn’t the most over-rated…. and what the hell happened to Tulo? I know he was injured, but damn. well below Jeter

i'm with ya

i voted carlos carrasco, but i’d have cecil ahead of him.

Saunders

I’d vote for him above most of these guys on the list. I’d also like to see Weglarz make an appearance, and for Bowden to get a shot.
Just my take.

Triunfel

No one’s made much of a case for him yet, but I think he’s going to stick at 2B and I think he’s the middle infield answer to F-Mart, without the same persistent health problems. I like his upside.

by aap212 on Nov 10, 2008 5:46 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As an M's fan...

I like Triunfel. But I want to see one more year of improvement from him before I drink the Kool-Aid. I want to see how he does in AA to see if it’s for real. Fowler and Andrus made a believer of me by what they did in AA, and F-Mart has shown me that he won’t be more than a 4th OF or an average corner OF (my projection) by what he has done in AA. Now let’s see what Carlos can do… until then though, I can’t put him above #50.

Seriously?

Pretty stupid to say Fernando will be a 4th OF at this point.

It’s almost as ridiculous as calling Vitters a 1B.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Production

I have severe doubts about Triunfel’s bat developing. He is the developing the proper physique to be a future power hitter but I think his production will be limited by his swing and approach at the plate. He also has had questions brought up about his work ethic with the mysterious suspension he recieved. He really needs to produce more and at a park besides High Desert.

I'm thinking with Zduriencik in charge

The M’s won’t be rushing their prospects as much as they have been. He’s probably one of the best with player development so I’m thinking a lot is going to change in that department. I mean Triunfel is the youngest player in his league by a decent margin. And he does have the highest cieling of anyone in the M’s system. That along with his very impressive second half, I could put him around here on the list.

He finally got a chance to show that he can hit and did not dissapoint. Him playing in the Northwest League is not really a negative for it is usually filled with recently drafted college players who are more experienced then he is.

he’s been my choice for a while now.

Tabata tester

If he was still in NY, there would be an outcry. Would like to see a Tabata tester around 50. He had a nice turn around once dealt to Pittsburgh.

by ByANose on Nov 10, 2008 8:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Dude

He’s on the current poll.

criteria

I asked this on the thread for #42 and didn’t get an answer, probably because a winner was declared soon after. Are we using any sort of eligibility criteria that would make not eligible a player although he would be eligible for ROY for next year. For example Teagarden. Obviously, he had a very poor hitting year in the minors but the Rangers are excited about him as their regular catcher and others seem to want him, so if eligible I think he is worth considering.

by Dalman on Nov 10, 2008 8:38 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Eligible

As long as they haven’t exceeded 50 IP and 130 ABs.

Teagarden

In that event we are overdue for Teagarden.
