Vote on awards-AL Cy Young

Ok, so I keep seeing everyone arguing about if CC should win a Cy Young and if Manny should be considered for MVP. Lets vote on a few of these issues... this is how it should be anyways, true baseball fans voting for the awards.... Since I can't put more than one poll in this post (at least I don't think I can) I will just put out 4 seperate posts (hope I don't tick everyone off). I'm really curious to see how the voting goes.

Thanks.

I know Lee had a better year in most aspects.

But if i had one guy to pitch a game this season, I would pick Doc Halladay for the AL.

You can’t argue with Lee’s Record tho, the dude doesn’t loose.

Remember: baseball guys... baseball...

+1

Though the article does make a valid point. Also I would prefer Halladay to Lee if i had to pick. Really kinda hard to argue with the year Lee had though. Give the man his award, he’s earned it.

For all those who think reading a short article exploring the topic we’re discussing is some sort of negative… uh… why is that again?

by alskor on Oct 4, 2008 2:18 AM EDT up reply actions

wtf?

I didn’t say that at all. It was a nice read, and it was worth thiking about.
But that doesn’t mean that to think about the Cy award you’ve GOT to be reading whatever BP writes.

by nms on Oct 5, 2008 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions

wtf indeed

Nobody said you have to be reading BP to have an educated opinion. The original poster suggested people read the article and for some reason you took the opportunity to s*** on BP for some reason… just struck me as odd.

For all those who think that reading BP is necessary to have a grip on a Cy award.. please educate yourself

Im not sure what youre trying to say here. You certainly did imply that reading the article wasnt worthwhile. “Please educate yourself”? What does this mean?

by alskor on Oct 5, 2008 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions

um

did you read the post I responded to AT ALL?
I was trying to mirror it… hence the “please educate yourself”

So?

The fact that Lee faced inferior competition means that he can’t be the Cy winner?

I love Halladay

I am a HUGE Halladay fan but in reality Lee deserves the Cy Young. He had an unbelievable season. Do I think he will ever repeat it? Not a chance. This guy is likely the next Estaban Loiaza but I have to give him credit as he deserves the Cy Young this season.

Give Lee his due

I’m a Jays fan and while I agree with the article (which all it really says is that the race should be a lot closer than it will be), I would still hand the award to Lee. The argument can go both ways. While Halladay has faced stiffer competition, he’s also had a better defense behind him and played in a more of a pitcher’s park. While I think that few people would rather take Lee over the long haul than Halladay, Lee had the better year so it’s his award (which is a yearly award and not a career award).

Farnsworth: Start the ship, Leela. Let's just steal the damn radar dish and get back to our own time.
Fry: But- But won't that change history?
Farnsworth: Oh, a lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa! Let's get the hell out of here already! Screw history!

Farnsworth: You mustn't interfere with the past! Don't do anything that affects anything. Unless it turns out you were supposed to do it. In which case, for the love of God don't not do it!
Fry: Got it.
Farnsworth: If for example you were to kill your grandfather, you'd cease to exist.
Fry: (gasps) But existing is basically all I do.

Halladay was awesome this year

as was Lee. It’s really close call. I voted Halladay, but I Lee will probably win the award. He is fully deserving.

Bonds stands alone.

HUH?

If he deserves the award why didn’t you vote for him? That doesn’t make any sense but I doubt any explanation would either.

by casejud on Oct 4, 2008 2:04 AM EDT up reply actions

He thinks Halladay and Lee are both fully deserving. It’s not that hard to comprehend.

by assorted small objects on Oct 4, 2008 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I voted Lee

Halladay had a great year too. Too much has been made of peripherals and their competition/divisions. Too little has been made of the fact that Lee gave up 68 runs in 223.1 IP while Doc gave up 88 runs in 246 IP. 2.74 RA to 3.22. That’s a substantial difference that isnt made up by the mitigating factors people keep bringing up, IMHO.

Either one would be a good choice, and I certainly dont feel either one would be robbed were the award given to the other… but I would say Lee has been the best pitcher in the league this year.

by alskor on Oct 4, 2008 12:10 AM EDT reply actions

Wow.

Halladay and Lee have nearly identical VORP, yet Cliff is winning the vote 3-1. No doubt media attention and other peripheral stuff like that is the difference.

Disagree

Lee hasnt been worlds better or anything. He’s just been slightly better and everyone seems to be aware of it…

before I click the button to vote

Am I giving humanity too much credit in my hope that K-Rod has not received one single vote?
