phillies fans have no class

they boo santa claus, then throw snowballs at him when he walks onto the field during an eagles game...then bud selig, the commissioner of baseball, speaks and they boo him. to top it all off, they even boo charlie manuel, the phils manager, when he praises the rays for their great season. are these the worst fans in all of sports? i've been to philly before to watch baseball and i've met some great fans. but their sportsmanship is overshadowed by the majority of phils fans out there who continually show that they have NO class.

i'm not sure what it is about these people that makes them act like such asses at sporting events. if i lived in philly, i'd be embarrassed by all of it.

dear joe buck,

COUNT THE RINGS YOU SMARMY JACKASS!!!!

When they should be sacrifice bunting, they are buying effeminate designer jeans. When they should be fouling off pitches, they are masturbating. Always, they are masturbating.

Considering that the Marlins have as many rings in 16 seasons as the Phillies do in like 130,

I’m thinking that may not be the greatest retort.

LOOK,

it’s been a while, and there;s a definite little brother complex in philly. we don’t want to share the spotlight with some second rate city, with their third rate fans.

i love the rays, and i love what they did this postseason, but seriously, FUCK ’em.

Wow, I do hope you are joking. You have probably been drinking though so either way I shouldn’t judge. :D

Congrats on the WS though as a Braves fan. I always liked the Phillies actually, used to be friends with John Kruk’s nephew and they are a pretty good team to.

it's also important to note that twice this decade

philadelphia teams have been eliminated by tampa bay teams.

both times were quite painful. there’s no love loss between the cities.

and seriously, fuck you for reinforcing the stereotype

we throw snowballs and beer bottles at santa, we throw batteries at JD drew, we beat the shit out of anyone wearing an opposing jersey at our stadia, and we anytime we win, we piss in the collective cornflakes of the rest of the country.

and you know what? we’re 7-0 at home in the postseason, 25-5 in the last 30, you can shit talk the fans all you want, but seriously, it doesn’t matter anymore.

WE’RE WORLD CHAMPIONS.

Philly memory

I remember my first time ever going to a game in Philly. It was during the Doug Glanville era, and the Giants were absolutely killing the Phils. The only remember the fans not booing twice. First time was when the pitcher intentionally threw the ball at Barry Bonds and Bonds charged the mound, and they were all ejected.

Then as I walked out, I heard more cheering. I figured they were making a comeback, as it was only the 7th (dont hate me for leaving early). I turned on Sportscenter that night just to Glanville getting ejected for fighting.

Have to love thos Philly fans…classy is the first word that comes to my mind…lol

Philly Fans

The first thing I think about when talking Philly sports is that jackass wearing an Eagles Ricky Williams jersey in 1999 booing the pick of Donovan McNabb. I think that alone should put Philly fans in the penalty box for 10 years minimum. Every Eagles fan was wrong there.

Phillies Fans

I lived in Philadelphia for 10 years. They love their Eagles with a passion. But, seriously, you guys are the worst, bandwagon baseball fans in the country. I knew maybe 5 real Phillies fans and had really great conversations with them. Good, respectable baseball fans who I congratulate.

The rest of you, you know who you are. Go back to rooting for football. Can’t wait until the Phillies hit another rough patch and the stadium is half empty again.

almost a decade

i posted on the ESPN baseball boards…and there were 2 in that entire time who were true fans, not kneejerk ranters that moved to the eagles board in june, then the sixers board in october, then the flyers board in january, then back to the phils board in march, rotating every time they got fed up with the team…..and both of those guys, oddly enough, lived outside of the philly area….one in atlanta, the other in eastern texas….perhaps it was the distance and the perspective that made them better knowledgable fans on the entire game, not just their squad, but they were both delights to chat with….now ranters and ravers have overtaken virtually every major sports site’s discussion boards….i feel like dressing up in a santa suit with my CAC (conceal and carry, for those wondering) permit in hand and going into a few philly watering holes :p

Chase Utley
Asks the fans “How’s everyone feeling tonight?!”
Fans give weak response. Chase says, “Is that the best you can do”
Fans get louder, Chase says, “Okay, that’s better”
Then Chase requests, “I want to hear one more boo”
Really loud boo from the crowd
Chase says, “Great, I can’t wait to hear that again next year!!!”

does that mean variablesdont will finally shut up?

obviously i’m not happy about the results as a mets fan but completely aside from that, i’m seriously sick of all these stupid pictures and 2-3 asinine posts a day where hes the only one who responds (at least 25 times)

and as far as the chest pounding, 12 yr old, we won you didn’t mentality, well congratulations, you got your 2nd championship. congratulations, you finally caught up to the mets and the marlins both of whom have been around not even 1/4 as long. congratulations, your trash dump of a city embarassed itself again with brawls in the streets and 76 arrests related to the “celebration”. congratulations for everything that any other city would be horribly embarassed about. congrats for all that now STFU already.

look, i know chase utley just pissed in your cornflakes

but the next season starts tomorrow, so pick yourself up and get ready to get cut down all over again in 2009. this team is going nowhere, and you’re gonna have to come up with all new material next season, when they win philadelphia’s first back to back titles since 75-76.

by variablesdont on Oct 30, 2008 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

HA!

cut down?

does cut down mean that the mets won 5 of 6 series in ’08 against that ’06 cardinals lookalike you call the “world champs” including crushing mr. untouchable cole hamels to the tune of 6.00 era and an 0-2 record (like we always do)? if so then yes the phillies cut down the mets

you faced NOBODY throughout the playoffs (TB is actually a good team but they didn’t show up) so don’t get off all high and mighty like you’re the late 90’s yankees or something, especially since the mets spanked the phillies this year…we beat you. period.

but i wasn’t talking about the phillies, i was talking about you. get it all out now and then quit it with these loudmouth posts about absolutely nothing.

by robcast23 on Oct 30, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you're seriously gonna claim they're not that good?

they were 7-0 at home in the playoffs, 11-3 overall. they went 24-6 to end the season, but yeah, they beat nobody. the dodgers have no talent. andrew jones, chin lung hu, andy laroche, and juan pierre were black holes in the playoffs. forget for a second that none of them started a game and were all replaced by significant;y better players in manny ramirez, rafael furcal, casey blake, and andre ethier, the team only won 84 games, so yeah, they suck.

look i understand why you’re bitter, but you’re flat wrong, and it’s gonna be fun to prove it over the next 3 years, when we continue to run unabated to the NL east title.

When they should be sacrifice bunting, they are buying effeminate designer jeans. When they should be fouling off pitches, they are masturbating. Always, they are masturbating.

by variablesdont on Oct 31, 2008 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

my claim

is that they didn’t “cut down” the mets. yes the mets, you know the team that crushed the phillies this year? the team that you so conveniently avoided.

and just quit trying to pump up the dodgers because thats an argument you’re never gonna win. next you’re gonna tell me why the brewers were actually the best team in baseball…

i hate to rain on your parade (well obviously no i dont hate to) but just accept it, you’re the ‘06 cardinals. just be happy that nobody realizes it, take your trophy, put it on your mantle next to the other 1 and clear a space for the next one, but no rush it’ll be about what? 100 more years? or was it 99?

i'm making a note of this

i’m sure that if you’re still around next september you’ll have a nice laugh about this, too, as you welcome your overlords, the philadelphia phillies.

until then, i guess you can look forward to another 2 rousingly successful knicks and rangers seasons. go team

this image of variablesdont….a 44 y/o guy in the basement of his mom’s house…writing as a “college aged guy” to try to relive his youth….his hair nicely styled in a greasy mullet….stuck in that basement ranting about baseball and talking trash for the last 25 years, and now he finally can hit the bar scene and party with other fans because they won it all finally…..and he has a ton of left over pent up testosterone after seeing all kinds of “pretty” girls (pretty for philthy fans, but c’mon now, we know….) at the bars that still would have nothing to do with him, so he comes on this board and spews useless rants and trash talk that mean about as much as me betting on which sharp rock in the parking lot will pop a tire first…..likely won’t ever happen, but if it does, i look like a genius!

by DeJay on Nov 1, 2008 8:47 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

massive? probably, but that;s not because i was attached to cardenas

at the time, there were three names being floated, blanton, burnett, and bedard. i was firmly in the camp that wanted burnett. i believe it’s better to go after someone that might be great, rather than someone who will dependably not be. i viewed blanton as being the latter, and i didn’t like that he was chosen ahead of burnett.

i also didn’t like that josh outman was treated like a throw in, but that was more of a secondary reason for opposition.
