Rollins takes it in the butt
I love Fox's extra closeup of Evan Longoria yamming his glove up Rollins' butt as he tags him out....and the ump blindly calls him safe. I'm rooting for the Rays mind you, but all in all, there have been some bad calls in this Series, basepaths especially. The Crawford missed call at 1st the other night ended up costing the Phils 2 runs.
Feel free to make this the Game 4 thread and talk about whatever....
Variables-please chime in, especially as the night wears on!

Eric Bruntlett
is a player I want on my team. If I’m in the National League. Smart player (Stanford). Always liked him ever since he came up w the Stros.
The Giants need to sign Harry Doyle.
I guess I can see Bruntlett
But I think I’d take Pujols. It’s close, tho.
Bossman
has got to be the fastest superstar in the game today (Willy T need not apply). On his steal of 3rd last night, I swear he took like 6 steps. Long loping speed, goodness he can go back on a ball in CF as good as anybody.
The Giants need to sign Harry Doyle.
A man named Beltran called
He wasn’t making any claims to the speed, but he said something about going back on the ball.
oh yeah and jose reyes
as far as sheer speed hes unmatched by any star player including bj or beltran.

Carlos Gomez is a superstar?
We weren’t just talking fastest players in the game. Gomez could certainly come to that party and bring Gathright as his +1. But for superstars that fast, Hanley Ramirez is the only guy we’re leaving out, I think.
The umpiring in this series has been horrific
Every game has been marred by a serious blown call, sometimes more than one. They’ve been equal-opportunity incompetents, at least, but this stuff is unacceptable in a championship series (unless it’s the NBA…).

Series over
This is the year of fucked up refs and umpires. I think sports needs to take these dumbasses back to school and teach them how to call things correctly unless half of these umps and refs are friends with Tim Donoughy.
Welcome to watching baseball...
…Rays fans!
Guess what? Sometime umpires blow calls! Like yesterday when Carl Crawford was out by a step on Jamie Moyer’s shovel pass at first, for instance.
Ive seen a lot of bitching by Tampa fans so far. After every game of the ALCS and WS Ive seen someone start a thread or go off about a call screwing the Rays. Its getting really tired… I really dont see Phils fans (who are typically notorious complainers) matching it. Very strange. I wonder if the Philly fans are just resigned to postseason suffering, so they dont have the outrage anymore…
PLUS
the ALCS was more or less decided by a series of five TERRIBLE strike calls/non calls in the 11th inning of Game 2, so Tampa fans: chill. Youve got nothing to complain about.
Im beginning to think Tampa was like the Tigers of a couple years back… everyone forgot what a great team St. Louis was for 2 or 3 years there – though they won less than 90 games that season. Everyone assumed the Tigers under Leyland were a team of destiny…. howd that work out? Philly has been a damn good team just short in pitching for about three years here… same deal…
Major difference is the Rays will actually remain a good team going forward, unlike Detroit, who promptly went in the s***ter.
Where are the Rays fans complaining?
There are quite a few Rays fans on this site, I don’t see a single one complaining in this thread.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
The ones on minorleagueball
mostly have my respect. The fact theyve been following Rays minor leaguers speaks volumes about their fandom.
There have been plenty of complaints about calls on this site by Rays fans, though, if you look around. Im not going to list them all here b/c thats like calling out people…
(HINT: Check the World Series threads)
There has been some pretty poor officiating though
Check the ball/strike charts on the Garza v Moyer chart, and the difference in strike zone they were giving the two pitchers is blatantly obvious. That’s not a Phillies-Rays thing though, that just seems to be the standard for ‘crafty veterans’, that they get a much bigger strike zone than everyone else.
I don’t think anyone’s really blaming the series on the umps though, just complaining about them. Other than last night’s game, both teams have been doing their best to lose the series.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
speaking of umpires.........
who in the heck is doing the plate in this game? he has the most amateurish call on called third strikes that i’ve ever seen.
mccarver
did anyone else here mccarver say that the ball aki booted (i forget what inning) should be ruled a hit because he probably wasn’t used to fielding a grounder so close to first. he also went on to say that had the ball “jumped up” and not hugged the grass like it did that would’ve been reason to issue an error. i mean wtf?
I heard Tim Lincecum will win 1 Cy Young & 11 Tim Lincecums. Question is, how many Cole Hamels will he win?

McCarver can only explain baseball in terms that a brain surgeon can understand
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Did anybody happen to see...
Terry Bradshaw refer to Tim McCarver as “the best color commentator in baseball today” on the Fox pre-game show this week? It was like listening to Barry Bonds say that Bobby Knight is the most polite man to the media in sports…
