I've added Pedro Alvarez & Mike Moustakas to the list of candidates and moved Rick Porcello back to the testers category. Again, thanks for participating!

Snider gets my vote.
again.
I heard Tim Lincecum will win 1 Cy Young & 11 Tim Lincecums. Question is, how many Cole Hamels will he win?
it was close b/t him and Heyward
Snider should take this, IMO.

I don't get the snider love
I just don’t see him as deserving this much adulation, even is he is only 20. Don’t know who I’d rank higher. On this list, probably MadBum.
Crazy power, holding his own in the majors at 20
What’s not to get?
Cahill
Voted for Cahill (his GB rates + K rate are hard to ignore) but both Rasmus and Snider should have been on before Hewaryd…Rasmus first of course.
I don't get the Rasmus love
He had a .746 OPS. .396 slugging….he was injured. Sure the tools are there…but how does he get a pass on such a shitty season? I cant find a breakdown, but if memory serves correctly, he only had a couple amazing months in his awesome season and the rest weren’t nearly as good(kinda pulled a Gamel). So #3 or #4 prospect after a bad year? I don’t think so.

Not airtight
My Rasmus position certainly isn’t airtight and it’s largely based on my own observations/gut. He certainly isn’t the first prospect to struggle yet retain his status. He’s got the goods, so does Maybin, I just happen to like Rasmus more. Same with Snider – even though I tend to lean towards fantasy implications, I have Rasmus above him.
Addressing your question about his season last year – he did struggle for a while, but that was due to a nasty sinus infection that caused him to lose weight (10+ lbs if I remember correctly). He mashed the rest of the season.
He gets a pass because that "shitty season" was in AAA at age 21...
and before someone accuses me of hypocrisy with regard to Porcello, who also had a statistically shitty season, the correct ARL adjustment is vastly higher for a hitter in AAA at 21 than for a pitcher in A+ at 19.

really?
Then why don’t I see a post from you saying that Andrew McCutchen should be rated #3? He was 2 months younger than Rasmus, spent the entire year at AAA getting 200 more AB’s than Rasmus, all while having better numbers.

Didn't get to see Rasmus
But I wasn’t too impressed with McCutchen in the two games or so I got to see him this year. The first thing that struck me was how small he was. I think he was listed at 5’11" or something, but he looked smaller than that to me. His power was only impressive relative to his size; he should hit doubles at the big-league level, but I’m not sure beyond that. His defense was okay in CF, certainly good enough to play in the bigs. I just don’t see the “superstar” upside there that other guys in this range seem to have.
+1
His age-20 season in MWL was pretty incredible; he came back to earth in 2008, but from scouting reports, the skill set is still there, and he was instead struggling with things like approach at the plate, multiple (and competing) advice, etc. Basically, kind of a mess.
I know, I know, these things can be trotted out as excuses for other players, but in this case I still think the overall .746 OPS and the scouting reports saying the 2007 Rasmus is the real one carries the day for me. I believe he is a safer pick than Maybin, and has more all-around baseball value than Snider. I believe his upside is still Grady Sizemore to Steve Finley.
You Gaddam hippocrite...
I agree, that’s a good point when looking at Rasmus and giving him a pass on 2008. I think he’s going to be a perennial all-star.
Alvarez
Although I understand the hype surrounding Alvarez and rightly so, I’m utterly dumbfounded as to how anyone could vote for him ahead of Travis Snider.
I heard Tim Lincecum will win 1 Cy Young & 11 Tim Lincecums. Question is, how many Cole Hamels will he win?
Maybin, again
5 tool/7 skills player, doing it at a higher level than Heyward. Had a better year than Rasmus. Plays a more important position than LaPorta and Snider. Southern League is tough on hitters. Also looked great in his cup of coffee this year. I tend to give more credit to players who perform at higher levels.

3 horse race
in my mind….i went snider, but i can see madbum, maybin, or snider here, and i wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the 4,5,6 guys….the voting puts rasmus right up there as well, but i would say he’s a tick behind those guys….
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
Snider
Easy choice here, with Maybin and Bumgarner coming in right behind.
As to the discussion of Rasmus, I can’t give him a pass on such a shitty season, especially when he and his father were blaming everyone in the StL org. for his struggles. Right now I’d have him around 15 or so overall.

Colby’s father, Tony (a high school baseball coach), blames Tony LaRussa’s micro-managing of the phenom’s swing. He even hints that his son should have defied the eccentric manager, saying "I don’t care if God tells me to change what I’m doing. If I’ve been having success, I’m not going to do it."
It’s not damning evidence, but it just rubbed me the wrong way when I read it. I’m no fan of LaRussa, but you don’t say stuff like that to the press when you’re in AAA.
i really like colby rasmus and all but if i were him i’d tell my father to stay out of it. this isn’t little league.

Bumgarner
I just can’t see voting for him ahead of Cahill. He’s got a better FB but worse secondary stuff, he spent the year in low-A vs. high-A/AA…. Then again, I also didn’t see how you could vote for Heyward ahead of guys like Snider.
Your vote is noted.

I also vote for Porcello
I don’t see how he could not possibly be in the polls at 4.

Reason
He only received 3% in Poll 3. He will be getting another tester soon enough.

While I voted for one of the hitters (Maybin) and will likely continue to do so for some time,
because I like hitting prospects more than pitching prospects at this level of premium status, I believe Brett Anderson is the next best pitching prospect and should be on the list.

Alderson
If Porcello gets on the list, I think Alderson should be added as well. Not saying that I’d vote for him, but you can make the argument that he’s better than Porcello based on his numbers this year.
that may be true but i don’t think the majority of posters would place alderson ahead of porcello. having said that, i really, really like alderson.

Hanson
Not that I think Hanson belongs in the top 10, but I do think he’ll deserve some consideration for top 20 honors. Here’s Kevin Goldstein from earlier today:
I remain massively confused as to why Hanson doesn’t get talked about when most discuss the top pitching prospects in the game. For some reason, he’s relegated to Group B, on the fringes of the discussion. That’s despite the fact that he had one of the most dominating seasons put up by any pitcher at any level this year, and he also proved himself at Double-A, and he now has the scouting reports to match the numbers. Now, he’s proving he belongs in that group in Arizona as well. With nine strikeouts in four no-hit innings on Saturday, Hanson extended his scoreless streak to 8 2/3 innings in three games, during which he’s allowed just one hit and struck out 14. Right-handers against him are 0-fo-20 with 12 strikeouts. Don’t make the same mistake as other observers—this guy is one of the best out there.
