Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

2009 the year of Upton?

I have been a little skeptical after such a  mediocre regular season, but there is no doubt he has been the best hitter (not named Manny) this entire post season. 6 bombs, .400 ave to go along with the speed and athleticism. Will this postseason catpult him into elite status in 2009? Eric Davis in prime type #s? ( .300/.400/.600 with 30+ bombs and 50 steals ) Just based off this coming out party, I wouldn't be overly shocked

Thoughts ?????

His regular season

was held down by a shoulder injury, he will have labrum surgery after the year.

I like Upton

But if his shoulder is so bad, why is he hitting homeruns now? I think he will get closer to his power from last season but to suddenly give him those type of numbers? I mean, for God’s sake, that would potentially make him the best player in the game.

He had a lot of rest down the stretch

The Rays sat him for nearly 2 weeks straight in September. In one of the post-game interviews in either the ALDS or ALCS, Upton stated that his shoulder felt a lot stronger after the time off and it’s made quite a difference.

That isn't so far-fetched

Well, I guess 300/400/600 is kind of far-fetched for almost any hitter but Upton is one of the few players out there who you can legitimately say his upside IS “one of the best in the game”

He is a top-of-the-line athlete who put up a 93 OPS+ at just age 19.

2009 could be year of the catcher

Soto, McCann, Wieters, Sandoval(listed as a C), Navarro, Shoppach, Teagarden, Martin, Mauer.
