Thanks Brickhaus
for putting Tejada on this poll.
I cant wait to see how much people are underestimating him.

Other-
Kiker.  I thought he had enough support on the last one to get on this one.

I'll have him
on the next one.  People had been pressing for the other ones on as well.

I still enjoy this list for what it is, but....
A month ago, I posted this on one of the old Community Prospect list and I think it was true then and very true now.

Group think bias ?
I'd love to see these votes come with a disclosure if you own the player in a fantasy league. This list seems a bit more static than many of the top prospect lists I've seen. My guess is, when a player gets hyped on this site, he probably also gets picked up by many of us. A disproportionate number of votes are then cast for those players despite performance. We all want to feel good about our roster so we vote for our guys. This list, imo, is peppered with both, guys that probably should have fallen to the back half of the top 100 and guys that are not yet worthy of the top tier. Just a thought.

Your thoughts?

I agree with this sentiment a lot. I think a lot of people are voting for players on their fantasy teams and favorite teams.

But the question remains... are they voting for people on their fantasy team to make their team look better, or did they acquire the player because they really feel that confident in them? Chicken or the egg?

By the way, I voted for Jair Jurrjens again this poll. I do not have him on my sim team (I am in only one league) but I did try to acquire him about a month ago. So it would have been a case of me trying to get him because I think he will be good, and that's also why I am voting for him.

this list seems pretty different that others
i've seen. look at goldstein's list, for example.

by larry on Jan 31, 2008 12:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

well
that list is one way, other lists will be other ways.
What I do at the end of these lists is put myself a spreadsheet together and average every player out, so that I can get an average of the lists...
I am not saying that that is what you must do, but if you feel that any list is missing some one part, make your own list.
This is a community list and the community is what is driving the polls here, so vote every poll and state your case and maybe your guys will get on there somewhere.

i'm confused
was this supposed to be addressed to me? if so, why?

by larry on Jan 31, 2008 1:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yes you...
you asked why they were soo different... rather, you implied you were concerned at why they were soo different.
If you wanna see different, just look at ESPN's new list: http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/columns/story?columnist=law_keith&id=3221365&action=l ogin&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2finsider%2fcolumns%2fstory%3fcolumnist% 3dlaw_keith%26id%3d3221365

Talk about different...
I can't even begin to comment on some of these guys.

i did no such thing
there isn't even a question mark in my post. the guy said this list was static. i said it seemed pretty different from other lists (including last year's), like the one released by goldstein today. argue with someone else.

it is a joke he is not listed yet

by dlpme77 on Jan 31, 2008 11:21 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Jokes
I think it is ignorant to say that this list is a joke just because a player you feel needs to be on the list is not.
There are only 100 spots on a top 100 list, and I know for a fact I think that there are 120 names I want to put on that list, but someone is gonna get left off.
If you feel that a player should be on, put his name in a comment and back up your player with some stats, comparisons, or projections from a credible site.
Thanks

It's not like there are any no-brainers left at this point, and frankly, there's very little separation between #50 and #150.  If you really think someone deserves to be on, back it up in the comments.

As for Jones specifically, I can see why people might not be that high on a 24 year old who only had a .814 OPS in the International League.  That's about 80 points lower than, say, Justin Ruggiano at the same age with a similar skill set.  Yes, Jones is more toolsy than Ruggiano, but I doubt anyone would be pressing for Ruggiano to be on the list even if we went to 200 instead of 100.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

Jones
I think that Jones is a bit early... On my personal list, Jones did not make the top 100. On his own team, there are even 2 better players not on the list yet in Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez.
Not saying Jones isn't a superior athlete, and BA had him at #4 on their rankings, http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/features/265139.html,
but I think Jones is another season from cracking the top 100.

I think Goldstein put the kabosh on this one
He has Jones at 70.  Unless his list is also a joke, that is.

He also had Lillibridge at 63, which runs contra to the people who were screaming that he was way too high in the mid-60's.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

by Brickhaus on Jan 31, 2008 1:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I'm as high on Jones as the next guy, but
I don't think it'd be a huge deal if people thought he was more of a 100-150 guy than a 50-100 guy. Goldstein's got him at 70, I've probably got him in the 50s-60s, but I'm a Braves fan, so there's almost certainly some inherent bias there.

Time for a runoff
Rowell and Mills have been separated by only 1-2 votes for a while now.  Can we have a runoff?
