Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Communit y Prospect question

There have been quite a few complaints in the community prospect threads lately, and I want to run a poll to see if the general consensus is that we should just stop soon, or if we should continue onto 100 as originally planned and that it's only a few people who are complaining.  It's not an insignificant amount of work for someone with a busy schedule, so I'm probably happy either way...

Poll
Should we continue the Community Prospect polls?
Yes - It's something good to do in the offseason
29 votes
Sure - I'd keep voting if it kept going
21 votes
Stop at 75 - It's been corrupted at this point, and the list just looks out of whack
16 votes
No - It's just wasting diaries at this point
15 votes
Either way - By now, I could really care less

I voted to keep going
But at the same time, I think we should move it along a bit quicker if that's possible. The difference between 71 and 72 is trivial compared to 10 and 11, so we could probably just do away with runoffs and end the votes after 100 or whatever.

the list
i liked it a lot. a LOT. but recent events have caused me to lose faith in the results. not that i think the results are necessarily worse now (though i do think they are worse), just that they pretty obviously don't reflect the opinions of this community any more. as such, it's definitely a valid question whether we should keep going.

i don't know if i just had my head in the sand before, or if the balloting problems really have gotten a lot worse. but after studying both this list and the results of my community ratings project, my inclination is to believe that the latter is true (the former may also be true, but seems less relevant).

personally, i'd like the see it taken back to the top 50 and stopped there, just because i do think those results more accurately reflected what the community felt.

of course, i really am enjoying the irony of having a stuffable poll to answer this question!

Yeah, that's about where the Anti-Stuffers started to give up.

Since you asked
I'm done with it.  And I think I was as big a cheerleader as anyone for the community poll (for whatever little that is worth).  I pretty much knew the ballot stuff was happening and was happy to rage against it, but I lost interest when Walden/Congor went from high to low to high support when we went from anonymous to public to anonymous.  If their patterns weren't already suspcious enough, that sequence did it.  Seeing them on there now makes me wonder how much other results reflect some nimrods going all Phil Humber on us.  (Speaking of Humber, that assessment by the rabid fans sure worked out well, huh?)

Has the schism in here between the homers and the objective assesors ever been higher?  Sigh.

Yeah, I kinda gave up around then too. I did enjoy the list, and wish I had an idea about how to continue the project. I just don't know how you do it. Maybe it's unwarranted paranoia, but perception is reality, and it's hard to shake the idea that people are skewing the voting, which kinda ruins it for me.

At this point, I'm not really paying attention, which is too bad I generally liked researching and debating the back-end list last year.

Yup
That 50-100 had a lot of great discussion.

I Gave Up
As soon as they started going public. The key to those lists were the discussion in the thread. Once that went, it was over for me.

I also liked the rating system. Even when I wasn't posting, I was reading.

I'm a big fan
But I think we should remove the poll aspect and make it comment-driven again.
