Question for Red Sox farm system

Just few questions for you guys.  Thanks for taking a look

  1. Who has better potential:  Ryan Kalish or Reid Engel?  They both sound like young outfielders with good contact with speed and I do see good potential in them
  2. What kind of potential does Felix Doubront has?
  3.  Better chance of breaking out:  Bard or Place?
  4. Would you give up on Craig Hanson?

My thought
  1. No doubt. Ryan Kalish is better prospect. He is speedy center fielder with strong arm, gap power, plate displine and great makeup. Reid Engel is a corner outfielder with limited power potential.
  2. Felix Doubront's stuff is average at best.
  3. I'm skeptical of both. But if I have to choose, I will pick Place over Bard becasue Place is much younger.
  4. Craig Hansen's problem is minor although I don't see him as a future closer any more. He still has some chance to be a middle relief pitcher or a setup guy in the big league.

hmm
kalish's ceiling right now is prolly 15-20hrs and 40sb. but that's the long shot. he's always had speed, but it's the power that he only started showing last yr. there are some concerns though that he might lose his speed as he bulks up. i guess you could say he's a poor man's version of jennings, but with concerns with his sb. a reasonable floor, if he doesnt become a dud might be 10-15hrs and 15-20sb.

i wouldnt give up on hansen yet. he's still got a shot and ive heard he's showing some dominance again. i'd give up on him if he didn't make it this year though.

Response
  1. Kalish. Not even close.
  2. Not great potential. No plus offerings. Nothing to get excited about here. I was skpetical to begin with and he had a brief window to impress me and he blew it. All done with him.
  3. Place. Not by that much though. Also, Id need to see more than a good year from either of them to be sold. Theyre both talented and with great tools/electric stuff. A question of adjustments. Place is so young(19) that its easy to give him time. We've seen flashes and the Sox have taken him along very slowly, teaching him approach first. Bard has that nasty heater, and if he could just harness his stuff he could leap forward quick. Right now, they both look like bad picks to me though. Im a skeptic and not a fan of either.
  4. Absolutely not. Hanson is back and could really break out next year. Looked dynamic again at the end of last season and Im very excited to see how he starts 08. They rebuilt his mechanics to protect his arm and its just now taking. This is about how long it was supposed to take as well, despite the impatience of sox fans and prospect ratings. He's locating again and his slider is filthy again. I wouldnt be shocked if he helped the MLB team this season.
