McPhail denies Bedard agreement.

-------------------

"We do not have an agreement with the Mariners," MacPhail said. MacPhail said Jones is not coming to Baltimore for a physical.

I think he's a liar, but discuss.

Doesn't this topic have enough threads already?

the deal isn't done yet
what is the guy supposed to say?  bring this discussion to the other thread.

1) "No comment"
  1. "I can't confirm or deny that"
  2. He can say a handful of words in a statement that make out to be nothing, like every GM is trained to be able to do.
...I can think of more, but it just hasn't hit me yet.

translation....
"everything is done and all the players are in place, but 1) they haven't passed their physicals yet; we expect them to, and 2) I promised the worst GM in baseball, Bill Bavasi, that I wouldn't make any public statements announcing the deal until after MarinersFest was over."

That's how I read this at least.  There is no reason for Adam Jones to lie about this.

AJ isn't necessarily lying.
He could have misinterpreted it to the media. Nobody knows.

Adam Jones is an unsung hero
I think it was supposed to be contained until the trade was completed, and Adam Jones is trying to save Bill Bavasi and the Mariners organization from making a trade that will destroy the Mariners' future chances of success by sabotaging MacPhail's plans for secrecy.
Still, I think it's happening.  MacPhail just hasn't  made all the arrangements for the post-steal celebration party   :D
Hey fish, leave those kids alone!

If this go down...
The Mariners should sooooo sign Barry Bonds. in fact, it's wayyyy too logical for Bavasi to grasp the concept!

I'd love that,
but the organization would never allow Bavasi to pick him up. Sometimes it feels like their high priority of a family friendly look takes priority over what can really help the team.

Wow
That would actually make them the favorite in the AL West. That would clearly be a strong team.
