Community member sighting - BK letter to Goldstein posted at BP

Great read on both Morales and Stewart, as well as on some prospecting philosophies in general.

Not sure how much is subscriber content, so I'll just post the link.

Good Read
I dont necessarily agree with everything KG said in that piece, but he gave a real good in depth reason for his rankings.

entirely wrong on stewart by the way
as are people here in general.  I say next year will be a different tune.  think back to the Alex Rios dumping and then BJ dumping. Shiny new toy syndrome big time.

Age relative to league is not everything, but he's been consistently ahead and consistently just good enough in the right ways against the competition to scream 'huge bounce back out of no where'. The Rox minor leagues do a better job of teaching by focusing on certain things than a lot of clubs. Things like; work for weeks on just figuring out a low slider (forget the strikeouts), figure that one thing out.  Minor numbers mean nothing when you intend to really build something that lasts. Which 'surprisingly' they are poised to do "overnight" after 5 long years of work.

Just because he has been on the scene so long does not make him no good, or even 'merely solid' (which would be a great outcome for almost any prospect actually).  He's going to be good....really good.  And its probably going to hit everyone in the face this year.  May be a little weird given the blocked MLB card, but I say he mutilates AAA if an injury doesn't get him in and they have to find a way to get him in.

Kinda risky putting it out there.  Been wrong before, but not with too many guys like this.  Had a lot of love still for Pena last year, I am still high high on Wily Mo.  When someone here (can't remember) tagged themselves with Alex Rios is the next Juan Gonzalez, buddy and me said that's probably right...just didn't have the nads to say it as well as he did.

Now...if I could only take back Murton and Lopez ...(though still a little hope...)  My three cents.

I Read It
Good read overall.

One thing I'd like to point out is, scouting reports are great data points...if they're reliable. The problem with most of us compared to a KG is, we get our reports second or third hand. That's why we rely more on stats.
