Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Community MLB Player #6

Very interesting: Three 3Bs in the first five. David Wright wins without breaking a sweat. A close race for second ends with the gifted Hanley Ramirez beating out Chase Utley. Let's see if that carries over...

Fantasy is not the focus of these polls. Overall play is the general thing to keep in mind when you value the player here. It's all about who you'd want to build a team around here in 2008 and for the next few years beyond it. Anyone that receives under 5% of the vote is subject to removal, with 2% being automatic.

If you vote "Other," please specify who you'd like to see on there.

David Ortiz
seriously come on.. the guy is a great hitter but he's a DH.. and he's getting up there in age

Ryan
Howard the same thing. I don't think a one tool player can be the 6th best player in baseball.

Hanley Ramirez/Braun
Shouldn't Defense play a factor here?

Considering position...
I would say that both Grady Sizemore and Joe Mauer should be on this list actually.

Sizemore had been on it
and was receiving very little support, and then some questioned if he's as good as Curtis Granderson now lol. He'll be back soon enough, but there's no way to make it so that everyone is happy.

I guess...
I just personally would be voting for either one of those guys right about now as all-around players, given position.

And I think Ortiz/Vlad should certainly be off given age/diminishing skills.

by DJSkillz on Jan 25, 2008 9:48 AM EST up reply actions

I can see the point to that
I don't really see much of a drop-off in what those guys are doing though. These guys are such tremendous offensive weapons that they deserve to make an appearance. The guy who's really failing to garner any support is Howard, and I'm gonna keep him off the list past 10. Now is the time to tinker with names at the bottom since the lead horses are clear early on. It'll be interesting to see if Utley or Hanley take this.

Ya...
I guess I don't really see the difference between a guy like Mauer or Sizemore, and guys like HanRam, Utley, given position/age.  Mauer is a C, the toughest position, and does everything well.  And Sizemore is a CF, another tough position, and does everything well, plus is younger.  I mean, I love Utley as much as the next guy, but he's 29 already.  He's not going to get any better.

I don't know; guess I'm just a tools guy so I like the all-around players more.

by DJSkillz on Jan 25, 2008 10:07 AM EST reply actions

Well
Utley doesn't really need to get any better. If he maintains what he's done the past few years at 2B, he's ultra valuable. Also, 29 smack in the middle of his prime, so he should be fine for the next few years you would think (that's the time range we're looking at in this).

Okay...
for 3 years, yes.

Anything longer and give me Sizemore/Mauer.  Heck, I might take them anyway.

I went Peavy here
...but I like BOSSMAN, Mauer, and Sizemore better than anyone else on the list...
