Alexei Ramirez

I see that there has been some Ramirez talks, he is in america and under contract. He is now the favroiet to start over Danny Richar. But I also want to know who he is?

Here is another question: I have Richar in a keeper fantasy leage, who is the safe bet going foward? What more can someone tell me about Ramirez?

i don't think he's a favorite to start over richar
if anyone is a favorite to start over richar, it'd be uribe. frankly, i find it hard to believe that a hitter coming from the cuban league will immediately make the leap to the major leagues. would be unprecedented, as far as i know.

further, unless richar raped ozzie guillen's daughter or something, i find it hard to believe that the sox will have given up on richar so soon after acquiring him.

at any rate, ramirez looks like a utility man, at least for 2008, who is likely to start in charlotte. he may be a long-term solution at SS.

Raped Ozzie Guillen's daughter or something
wtf?

Are you in 4th grade?

can you think of another reason
the sox would give up on a player that quickly?

Not into censorship
but there are a few analogies that are considered pretty bush-league and/or needlessly tactless on mature forums.  Some have even surfaced here in the past, with strong negative reaction from the community.  I see you are a new poster here, so I'll spell 'em out for you so you don't have to worry about your message getting lost in the telling:

Analogies to Hitler
Analogies to the Holocaust
Use of the N word
Racist terminology
Reference to raping people's daughters
References to people's families

There are probably more, maybe others can fill in.

Hope that helps.

i didn't realize i was on a mature forum
certainly haven't seen much evidence of that. perhaps i'm merely unconsciously lowering myself to the level of discourse here. sorry if my bluntness/crudeness offends.

and
while i'm new here, i spend a great deal of time on the sister sb nation white sox site. i realize that those who don't follow the white sox, or don't follow that site, may not get what i was referencing.

Right
And I have seen numerous rumors (although that's all they are) about a Konerko trade so they can shift Swish to 1st, and Alexei to the OF.  What I haven't seen are many good comps for Alexei.  He comes with hype, and the stats approach isn't very reliable in his case, but what kind of player will he be?  With his age, I'm not too much of a skeptic about a quick transition, but I honestly just don't know much about him.  I would think that if he was a defnsive wunderkind, he wouldn't be rumored to the OF.  I know nothing about his bat.  Anyone have insight/scouting/comps?

Alexei Ramirez
Is going to be a horrible player.

Excuse me, I'm still having nightmares from Alay Soler.

OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD.

LOL
I would hope most people don't try to compare pitchers to hitters.  That's like saying Dice-K will be a huge success because Ichiro was.

Honestly if you want a comp, maybe Yuniesky Betancourt?  He spent about half a year I think in the minors before debuting with Seattle.  I know their games are not necessarily similar, but if you are looking for a player in a similar situation, he's the best one I can think of off the top of my head.

Seriously
Does anyone know anything about his bat?  I haven't gotten a str8 read yet.

Last time
Still haven't seen a bat comp/rating.  Among all of our expertise, NONE of us have anything?

he's a hitter coming from the cuban leagues
there are no good comps. betancourt is probably as close as you'd get and he's significantly younger and also is arguably a different kind of hitter than ramirez.

good numbers
he's got excellent numbers coming out of cuba for what its worth.  last year led the league with like a .330 avg and 20 hr, and is a career .330 hitter.  he also hit .375 in the wbc.  most people ive heard from arent sold on his bat translating well to mlb, especially his power.  defensively i havent heard anything bad, 2b/cf are definite solid, and most think he wouldnt be great at short, but could handle the position if needed/wanted.  i think he starts in AAA unless he dominates in spring training.  his progress in spring training will be one of the more interesting stories of the spring to watch.  this guy could be real solid, but he could just as easy also turn out to be a big nothing.
