Ian Stewart to 2B??

I was just browsing through some player notes and noticed something I hadn't seen before.  CBS Sports was reporting that Ian Stewart may be moved to 2B over the winter.

Are the any Rockies fans out there (or anyone else) who have heard about this possible position switch?  Any ideas if he could make the switch successfully?

2B
This has been talked about for a while, especially after Matsui left and they failed to get their backup plans (I believe they wanted Iguchi).  But, yeah, they've been talking about moving him to 2B to try to get his bat in the lineup for a good bit now.

There can be only one:
Nix
Marcus Giles
Omar Quintanilla
Ian Stewart

Who will win?

If you asked me to wager on it
I would say Giles is the starter on opening day, but Nix is the guy that logs the most AB's at 2B in 2008.  IMO, Stewart is destined to toil in AAA in 2008.

Yep
Yeah it's a free-for-all.  Brought in Giles from SD and from inside the organization will look at Stewart/Baker/Nelson/Nix.  Fantasy wise the winner will likely hit 8th.
As a Rox fan, I would like to see Helton on the market(SP/stud catcher prospect or center fielder), Atkins at 1B, Stewart at 3rd, Nelson at 2nd and Baker as super-sub.
Tavaras
Tulo
Atkins
Holliday
Hawpe
Stewart
Torrealba(? Clement in a deal)
Nelson

Not a lineup most pitchers would want to face.

If I were the Mariners I would be somewhat
interested in this so we can outright release Sexson. The Rox would have to pay 1/3 to 1/2 of the contract and I'd make the deal.

re: rockies
I agree that it's time for Helton to be traded. It's been a great run Todd, but I want to see what Ian Stewart can do and I have serious doubts about his ability to work at 2B.

Nobody
Is going to be willing to take on Helton's salary.  He's not nearly worth what he makes, and there is no way the rockies pay another team to take him.

Then again.....
The Rockies found someone to take Mike Hampton....
