Detroit Tigers Kool-Aid

Homer review of Detroit's farm system

Star-divide

I love the Tigers, and I'm confident that Dombrowski will restock the system quickly, but all I can say about this writer's optimism is WOW:

Well
lol

If you look at it that way, every team has a good farm system.

No I'm not forgetting the 'Stros. :-)

Henning
Lynn Henning is one of the worst baseball writers in the country.  If he was a national writer he would be up in the annals with Joe Morgan.  People in Detroit that know baseball don't even take Henning seriously.

Porcello
decent write up on him. Any chance this kid could come up in 09 at some point?

I've got the 2nd pick in my prospect draft this year...wondering if it would be a reach to take him before Weiters?

ETA = Sept 2009
but i still wouldn't even think about taking him over wieters....

This is pretty bad...
He didn't even get the right people -- Skelton is a more interesting catching prospect closer to the major leagues.

Hardly bare!
When your top 3 prospects havent pitched/played a professional inning?

Where's Brandon Hamilton?
I think he could become better than Porcello.  He reminds me a bit of Matt Cain for some reason.

Hamilton
He's got a good arm, but his secondary stuff is no where near Porcello's level.  He's definitely a top twenty prospect though.  Lynn Henning doesn't really know what he's talking about.

Tigers Fans
I love all these new Tigers fans.  Where were you all in 2002 and 2003 when no one went to the ballpark to see this team play?  Fair weather Detroit fans...roughly 50%, if not more.

re
Would you pay to see a bunch of guys who belonged in triple A and tried to pass themselves off as a big league team?  They couldn't hit, they couldn't pitch, they couldn't even play defense.  I know I did, but a lot of people probably wouldn't, its only natural.

I've been a fan over 20 years
But I know where you're coming from.

Getting tickets used to be easy for me.

I don't mind the large crowds these days.  They're kinda fun, but I'm very disappointed that I can't get tix to a handful of games b/c of the bandwagoners.

In Todd Jones (*gulp*) we trust?

re: fairweather fans
not sure if this was targeted at me (or anyone, for that matter) in particular, but i've been a fan since i was 8 years old and went to my first game...'85 vs. the BoSox, watched Gibby hit a walkoff in the 10th or 11th.

and i was there in '02 (saw one of weaver's last games) but not much since then...just don't care for baseball at the CoPa.

One of my best memories is sitting in the upper deck in right field in the late 90's or early 00's...had the entire section to myself, with a 70-something usher who told me that Higgy was the best defensive outfielder he'd ever seen (including Kaline) because of his fundamentals...nothing beats listening to a true old-timer.

Rooting for the Yankees is like going to a casino and rooting for the house.

good one XD
I love this write up

17. Audy Ciriaco, SS, 6-3, 195, age 20

Never mind Ciriaco hit only .224 last season at West Michigan. The prospect from the Dominican Republic has splendid size and tools.

------------------------------------------------

I think the bigger question though is that wether the MLB Tigers are getting a bit too much of kool-aid themself? they're a good team. but some of the expectations i'm hearing are out of this world ... scoring 1000 runs... blow everyone away in RS ... Great rotation (really? the names are great but the results is a bit shaky to say the least )
