2008 community prospect ratings--cole rohrbough

this thread is for discussion of cole rohrbough, LHP, atlanta braves. here are some links to rohrbough's stats:

i'll leave this thread open for at least 48 hours. you can vote at any time, but since you can't change your vote, if you are uncertain in any way, it's probably best to refrain from voting until after you get a chance to read the discussion.

the numerical ratings should follow this scale:

10 bona fide blue-chip grade A stud
9
8 great prospect, somebody you'd be okay with as the jewel of your favorite team's system
7
6 good prospect, but not among the best in the game
5
4 marginal prospect, but somebody with a pulse
3
2 organizational filler--just a warm body to fill out a minor league roster
1

the rating should be a combination of the player's possible outcomes and his likelihood of reaching those outcomes. in other words, consider both "upside" and "safety" when making your decision--though how you weight them is entirely up to you.

for example, you could give somebody an 8 because you feel he is sure to be a pretty good player, but you could also give somebody else an 8 because even though he has a higher chance to flame out, he also has a chance to be really special. a 5 might be a guy with a decent chance to be a regular, or it might be somebody with a pretty big upside who you are just not very confident will actually ever make it.

so all of these guys
are pitchers who put up eye-popping numbers in their debut in 2007. i think rohrbough looks the most impressive of the bunch. he's a juco draft-and-follow who struck out a crazy 14 batters per inning across two levels of A ball at age 20. i don't know what this guy throws, but i know i've got my eye on him.

anybody here seen him pitch?

I haven't...
But, I'm pretty sure he throws a knuckle-curve that pretty much dominated.

I need to see him next year.

BA scouting report
Sat 88-90 FB earlier in the year, then he changed his arm slot and is now capable of hitting 94. Wicked power curveball. Best curve and control in Atlanta's system. Mixes pitches well.

I'm going with a 7. Very interesting guy to watch next year.

Rohrbough
I actually saw this kid pitch live in Rome and he was as advertised. Most people on this board who talks about prospects go off other people scouting reports and numbers they see on paper. When I saw this kid pitch he was absolutely amazing. They had him on a strict pitch count the entire year because of him pitching in JUCO but his game line was 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 ER, 0 BB, and 11 Ks and that was after 77 pitches. Not one batter hit his curveball which I must say if it was compared to anyones CB it's Barry Zito's with more downward spike. His FB is that night was consistently 93-94, his FB has been 91-94 since he worked with his pitching coach in Danville and started to come over top with his pitches but he occasionally drop his arm angle and loses some velocity. I know he was pitching against young hitter who probably never saw a curveball like that before but he dominated the way he should against the given competition. He may have some trouble when he moves up and faces better competition guys who have seen a variety of pitches but so far I don't see that happening. Very underrated IMO but if he does it this year he'll earn his respect.

He might be the next Clay Buchholz rise pitcher
I mean he'll go from middle of the rotation starter from 05 to potential ace this year.

He might start back down in Rome(Low A for those who don't know the system) and finish with a few innings in Mississippi(AA) if he pitches as well as he did last year. I hope he starts back in Rome so I can see him pitch again.
